I am not a sparky so I am not sure about the technical matters but if the test switch was located closer to the junction rose, you could get one switch operating both EL's which would be easier when testing and having a test switch for every EL would mean test switches everywhere I would sooner have one test switch controlling a group of EL's.An emergency lighting system should be installed by an electrician who specialises in emergency lighting. Maintained emergency lights stay on constantly at all times and stay lit for the minimum emergency duration (usually 3 hours) after a mains failure. But I will defend your (and my) right to eat them if we wish, much in the same way I defend our right as men to have a baby, even though we dont have a womb .
