With regular practice, these exercises can make a difference in how well your ears function overall. Now, whether you know it or not, every time you swallow and yawn you are actually exercising your ears! This simple exercise is often quite effective at removing Eustachian tube blockage because the muscles used in the movement are quite strong.Valsalva and Toynbee manoeuvres can be done to push some air into middle ear, take a deep breath, pinch your nose and close your mouth, and gently pop your ears. For example, using a neti pot or saline nasal rinse can help flush away any excess mucus and open up your airways. The air is constantly being absorbed, so fresh supplies of air are needed to get into the middle ear from time to time.

When these tubes don’t work properly, a person may experience discomfort due to an imbalance in air pressure or fluid buildup behind their eardrum. These exercises help push air into the middle ear and stimulate circulation within the eustachian tube lining. Now that you know how to do Eustachian tube exercises, it’s time to learn some tips for getting the most out of them.If you (or your child) have painful pressure in your ears, try releasing the pressure by yawning, chewing gum, or gently blowing air through your plugged nose. If you have persistent symptoms (for more than 12 weeks), that have not responded to conservative measures as above, or if you get other symptoms such as repeated or long-lasting ear discharge/infection or significant pain, you should consult your GP. The air can't get in through the eardrum as this is a complete seal, so it gets in from the back of the nose when the Eustachian tube opens. I may have to do a dose of clonazepam tonight, something I didn't think I'd ever even have to think about doing again.
