After comparing these two headphones side by side, we found that the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO 250 Ohmsis a better choice than the DT 990 PRO 80 Ohms due to its superior sound quality. The propensity of all open-back headphones to leak sound makes them less suitable for recording with microphones, but the ability to allow air to pass through the back of the shell is intended to help deliver a more open, natural soundstage and wider stereo image when finalising your mixes. After listening to more than 100 Trance and Techno tracks I had the feeling that some of them were made or at least tested with DT990 because they were sounding good while others (even those from famous producers) were flat, lifeless and sounded like coming from a tiny box. We are particularly proud of the durability of our products, because all the components used are replaceable if necessary.

HOWEVER today i received them and when i plugged them into my Ipod (4th gen) i was thoroughly disappointed! The impedance is comparatively high at 250 ohms, but nothing stands in the way of reasonable playback volume on mobile devices. If you do take the plunge, however, you’ll also get a frequency response that closely follows our studio curve. Alternatively, the DT 990 PRO with an impedance of 250Ohms and a sensitivity of 99dB requires plenty of power to deliver loud audio, making it ideal for home use with equipment with high amplification. For critical listening, these headphones seem to be alright but once again, high frequencies are spoiling it.The ODAC is designed to be built into the O2 (at the expense of losing the option of battery powered operation), so a case is not necessary for it, but some DIY work is needed to install it.
