Once you've installed the latest version of Retroarch, you'll need to choose from one of the two main N64 cores. Don’t get me wrong I was a fan of the original but when the analog stick wore out the aftermarket for them wasn’t great. Once a game is up and running in a given core, you can change that core's graphical settings and so on by going to "Retroarch menu -> Quick Menu -> Options.

To my frustration, I found that the default controls surrounding the C buttons were really wonky, but the service does not allow you to remap buttons, which is beyond frustrating. Players would often take apart Nintendo 64 controllers to mix-and-match the tops and bottoms of the shell, creating bi-color controllers.Such a layout would become dominant in gamepad design, as by that time the left analog stick had become universally accepted as the primary movement control on 3D games across all consoles. If you're still on the old XMB UI, then the guide still completely applies - it's just that it will look different on your screen.
