About this deal

The anecdotes are wonderful and I loved Michael reading his book as if it was a post dinner party chat over coffee. His chance comes through a meeting with the wife of Roger Beckermann, who dreamed up the whole Turin heist in the first place, and who we see killed by the Italian mafia in the opening scenes of the movie. Although it received a Golden Globe nomination for "Best English-Language Foreign Film", the film was not a success in the US.

The "Chinese" plane delivering the gold to Turin is a rare Douglas C-74 Globemaster, of which only 14 were built and only four passed into private ownership. In the end if I could give you one bit of advice, it would be that: find what you love, and do it as well as you can. But I like to think I got to know Michael Caine while reading this book and that he was offering up the same information over and over again to be helpful rather than just to fill pages, or something else less kind. Caine looks back across his career, describing the, good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful - in what appears to be a fairly candid review of anecdotes of his life. Though it’s fair to say there’s a bit of overlap in this book to his previous autobiographical tomes, it’s nevertheless an entertaining read and shows off Caine’s storytelling talent and ability to dissect events and understand how to move forward. Then, I switched to the audiobook read by the author himself and just loved listening to Michael Caine tell his story in his own sublime voice. While this second autobiography gives a great deal of advice to aspiring actors, the stories of his encounters with so many legendary figures are fascinating. According to several sources, the "Aston" pushed off the cliff was a Vignale Lancia Flaminia mocked up as an Aston.

Although primarily aimed at those with a yen for performance, his advice is useful for anyone wanting to better themselves. The crew swiftly ambush the gold convoy outside the Museo Egizio as it is stalled by the traffic jam. Fabulous anecdotes and great advice from a national treasure who knows he's made a brilliant life from humble beginnings.Bringing brilliant new insight into his life and work and with his wonderful gift for story, this is Caine at his wise and entertaining best.
