And because every dungeon is different, it will keep you fighting, looting and dying over and again for many happy hours. But just because the rules are simple, doesn’t mean the game is an easy ride, which once again adds to its repeat playability. With physical game nights out of the window, multiplayer games (which makes up pretty much 90% of my collection), just weren’t viable anymore.

All in a small box with nice canvas bags for the components makes for the perfect travel companion either solo or with friends. You add an extra dice to your combat roll, which could prove decisive against more powerful adversaries. The small axe can be worn discretely in any tavern, but its lightness and ease of handling means it punches above its weight when used in combat. Today on the blog I have a new adventure for you in the form of a dungeon crawler thats perfect for beginners and veteran players, with enough flexibility to make it as easy or challenging as you like and small enough to travel with.
It could have a satisfying symmetry, worthy of a double-page spread in Ideal Dungeon magazine, or it could represent the diabolical diggings of an insane and malevolent force, full of dead ends and irrational interior design decisions.

The rusty armour may have been lying around for a few decades but it can still withstand a whack from a goblin’s sword.Even though Bag Of Dungeon has a long shelf-life due to is variety of characters, gameplay and scenarios; it’s nice to have options to do even more customisation. A small chest with a small trap that may yet cause enough damage to kill you if you’re already weak. And sometimes, just sometimes, no matter how well you play, no matter how strong the bond of loyalty between you all, the dungeon layout and the monsters you encounter will be nothing short of a suicide mission. Actually a really cool little set up, I’ve been trying to get my 7 year old into gaming but was worried it wouldn’t be enjoyable for me too.

What we never wanted to do was control or subdue its unpredictability, because this is essential, possibly defining, element of adventure. While it’s reasonable to dial our expectations back from the sprawling joys of Nethack or Crawl, we can hope that anything attempting to translate this into cardboard at least gives us the vibe of these ascii adventures.
The deliberately divisive element within Bag of Dungeon (the appearance of the Ring) that pits player against player is there for your own moral conscience – it’s not mandatory. It is quick to setup and play, provides player choice and allows for an obvious emergent narrative during play.
