Perhaps he’s talking to the band he’d leave four days before they shared a triumphant album with the rest of the world. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. On “Bread Song,” Wood ponders the vulnerability of eating in bed while desperately squeezing his phone as if it can make his intentions more direct and compelling. Chaos Space Marine” might be better described as pre-rock, touching on klezmer, chamber music, jazz, or any form of pop that used strings or horns as primary instruments. Knowing how it all ends does nothing to detract from the joy Black Country, New Road have poured into Ants From Up There—not when they spend every second reminding us of why we let ourselves get swept up in these beautifully doomed fantasies to begin with.

Even without the YouTube archives, it’s easy to picture the evolution of “Snow Globes” in real time; a braid of harmonized guitars repeats until the strings follow suit, all while Wayne bashes away in a completely different meter, a provocation and also a fitting rhythm to Wood’s slow-motion implosion. I own 4 copies of this album and this is the only pressing that doesn't have excessive surface noise. Following on almost exactly a year to the day from the release of their acclaimed debut “For the first time”, the band have harnessed the momentum from that record and run full pelt into their second, with “Ants From Up There” managing to strike a skilful balance between feeling like a bold stylistic overhaul of what came before, as well as a natural progression. Pre-sale to The Roundhouse show and April 2022 UK / IE dates available from Tuesday 19th October at 9am BST. The album’s purest pop moment—Wood crooning, “She had Billie Eilish style/Moving to Berlin for a little while” during “Good Will Hunting,” as a THX synth renders it appropriately cinematic—could possibly spawn an entire TikTok subgenre for the rest of 2022.All seven members of the London band amplify the dynamics of Wood’s every convulsion, from giddy infatuation to paralyzing despair, as he desperately sacrifices his serenity for a tragic and heroic cause. x - ZEN278 'Ants From Up There' Double black 140g vinyl, housed in an artworked gatefold sleeve with black paper inner sleeves and 20 page lyric booklet and sticker. I've kind of accepted that this might be the best thing that I'm ever part of for the rest of my life. It was a time of strivers and try-hards, bands whose unwieldiness and anachronism were kinda the entire point.

His final line as the frontman of Black Country, New Road looks at a relationship—a lover, the audience, himself—and sums it up: “All I’ve been forms the drone/We sing the rest/Oh, your generous loan to me/Your crippling interest. They gave themselves complicated names and used too many woodwinds and made life-altering and reflexively divisive music whose values seem wildly out of step in 2022.Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene.

The mastering is the same and quiet but it much easier to just turn the volume up on this with the low noise floor. unfortunately all my 4 copies had non-fill, so I'm suprised you all have such positive experiences with this pressing.Black Country, New Road Live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road, will be available as part of the Deluxe LP and CD versions of ‘Ants From Up There’. A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential. Over the last few months he has disarmed packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung. A more warm and sentimental Black Country, New Road remains just as challenging and potentially confounding as their former selves; this isn’t due to any sonic alteration on Ants From Up There so much as their shift from the self-conscious remove of post-punk to the life-affirming extremity of emo.
