Dogger was a particular favourite in our household, with myself and my siblings able to relate to the attachment to a much loved soft toy, and understanding Dave’s feelings when Dogger goes missing.

Fun fact; I was so obsessed with these books as a small child that my mum eventually HID them all so I couldn't bring them to her and make her read them (We did have plenty of other books, so this wasn't such a hardship! Soon everyone in the street becomes involved in trying to rescue Alfie, but he has a plan of his own.

Fans of the other Alfie books and those meeting the family for the first time will be pleased by the real-life situations, jauntily depicted in Hughes's fresh-faced watercolors. Young children are able to find the extraordinary in every day ordinary scenes, like losing a beloved stuffed animal, helping your baby sister eat with her spoon, and going to a friend's birthday party.
