Nose: Runny honey, dried fruits, and biscuity malt enlivened by a fresh, zesty quality, and notes of waxed citrus.

Close your eyes and you're sitting in a comfy worn leather chair surrounded by shelves of ancient leather-bound tombs whilst honey bees flit around the gentle smoke of your delicate cigar. On the palate, there’s ample nougat to complement the inherent cereal bill, along with a big lemon peel note and a touch of cinnamon. We recently popped back up for a visit and a very detailed and educational whisky geek tour (as part of the May2014whisky month celebrations).However the 40% ABV does this whisky a disservice and allows the incredibly expressive nose to translate into a somewhat thinned and watery mouthfeel, which in turn, doesn’t deliver nearly as much impact of flavour. A 12 year old, 16 year old and 21 year old form the rest of the distillery’s aged range and all have been given a smart, modern rebrand in the last few years. This is the last scotch I had the opportunity to taste at the eponymous (and now defunct) Scotch Bar in Madrid (if you have read my reviews you might know I loved that secluded spot.
