About this deal

A Forest of Vanity and Valour is the dark fantasy retelling of Robin Hood by author AP Beswick that kept me reading until the very end and a story that definitely could have benefited from being longer than roughly 250 pages. Night after night, he would sit beside their beds, weaving magical tales that would light up the face of his youngest daughter. But his world upends when he unearths an ancient spellbookthat promises to unlock a shadowy, forgotten magic.

But after witnessing her siblings' cruel deaths, she unleashes her powers for the first time and makes her escape. No matter the story (it's an inspired-by anyways), the character's reasons and development are as non-existent as the creativity of the writing style. First-person is difficult to pull off, especially when there are multiple points of view, and this one flopped. Not the worst book I’ve read in 2023, but hella disappointing for how good it looked on TikTok and the cover is pretty legit. While the concept for his first novel was conceived six years ago, it was the nightly ritual of crafting bedtime stories for his children that really empowered him to breathe life into it.

Here is a quick description and cover image of book A Forest Of Vanity And Valour (The Levanthria Series Book 1) written by A.

It was advertised as a dark retelling of Robin Hood and while it was “dark” it honestly read like YA to me.

The mythical creatures and magic combined with quality writing took this retelling to the next level! If you like fast-paced action, evil-to-good transformations, and classic stories with a twist, then you’ll love A. And as the realm of Levanthria teeters on the edge of ruin, Jordell faces an almost insurmountable challenge. While this started out as one, it ended up being a very loose retelling and very little shooting of arrows after a specific incident. The short chapters drove me mad because they were literally two or three pages every time for no reason. There he sees the people suffering from a distance and he decides to stand up for all the common people of the city. Other than that, the story overall was fast paced, a quick read and, again, wasn’t the worst read this year for me.
