About this deal

At first, Temple doesn't want to play by these rules, but eventually he turns around and the two of them start their investigation. Hindle commented: "To think that we’ll soon be welcoming readers aboard the Endeavour is ridiculously exciting. For the above reasons, whilst I genuinely did enjoy the story and wanted to know how it ended, I do not think I would have persevered to the end had I not felt obliged to leave an informed review. It begins with a list of notable passengers for instance and the WW1 experiences of one of the main characters, provides echoes of other modern day written, but 1920s-set mysteries, such as the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear. The story brought two key characters in Birch, the ship's officer and Temple, the policeman who happened to be on the boat; don't ever believe in coincidences.

Birch’s daughter, Amelia, has been missing for two years, which has led to the breakdown of his marriage and a rather irritating habit (well, for the reader perhaps) of constantly touching a piece of yellow ribbon that she wore. The continued love for giants of the crime genre, such as Agatha Christie and the phenomenal success of recent releases such as Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club, and films such as 'Knives Out', shows that appetite for smart, character-led crime fiction has never been higher. No fun, too confusing to follow, and a twist at the end which makes no sense and isn’t even interesting, let alone satisfying.I was drawn to A Fatal Crossing first by the cover, then when I saw that it was a Golden Age-style mystery novel set at sea in the 1920s, I was even more interested!

Craven ‘The action unfolds at a rip-roaring pace in this perfectly executed homage to the Golden Age of crime, which features a deviously devised plot boasting a final twist worthy of Christie herself. But given that the story takes place over just four days, it feels like we take a long time getting there and unfortunately when we do reach the concluding chapters of the novel, the plot sharply goes in another direction. On the private island of Castello Fiore - surrounded by the glittering waters of Lake Garda - the illustrious Heywood family gathers for their son Laurence's wedding to Italian influencer Eva Bianchi. Not far away, they found what they dreaded: three bodies, a man, woman and toddler, frozen in the snow in the contorted positions in which they died.Always exciting to read a new author and I enjoyed this murder/mystery set in the 1920's on a cruise ship. I never like to leave negative reviews because I’m sure I’d be shockingly bad at writing a novel if I ever tried, but after all the hype I saw on Twitter, which inspired my purchase, I am very disappointed and glad it’s over. The two of them find themselves looking into a group of passengers, most of whom know each other, intent on attending the NYC Art Fair, in an inquiry that revolves around a valuable stolen artwork, having to sift through the deceptions, secrets and lies, whilst facing numerous obstacles, such as a powerful, ruthless and dangerous criminal gang. Unfortunately I didn’t find myself particularly engaged in the story, or really caring about the outcome.
