About this deal

During the pilot episode, he introduces himself as " the grrreatest pirate, sorrrcerer and vain villain in the worrrld", showing that he stresses his R's when speaking. Nothing. I’d just try to get out alive. (And lest anyone think me callous, I should add that I don’t have any pets!) This can easily be read as a standalone novel, so skilful is the storytelling ... Paver powerfully presents a worldview that's magical but never primitive' - Financial Times Danger, magic and non-stop adventure await Torak, Renn and Wolf. The Clans will be tested as never before, as they battle to find ways to survive and thrive in their beloved Forest.

Paver powerfully presents a world view that’s magical but never primitive’ Financial Times’It transports us a long way from the here and now’ Sunday Times, Children’s Book of the Week’This book is a novel to be cherished, treasured and loved by every young generation to come’ LoveReading4Kids Because if we don’t do anything then we’ll never figure out how to help you with these nightmares!” As an adult, I will comment that the plot-lines of every book in this series are undeniably the same - or at least very similar. But, even as an adult, I can't deny that I enjoy every single book, simply because this plot-line works. No doubt this is managed by the fact that the characters (Torak, Renn, Wolf and others) are such well-fleshed out, likeable characters, but also by the inherent magic that Paver's world has.Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! However, his trademark giggle is heard after Milo is decapitated.

Skin Taker begins with a bang. A meteorite strikes the Forest, plunging Torak's world into chaos. As the clans struggle to survive, they face the same choice we do today: do they turn on each other, or work together? This review may not be very objective, as when I was younger, I was a massive fan of the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series, I've read Wolf Brother at least ten times, and I even named a hamster after Renn! In the Dark Time of midwinter, disaster strikes the Forest. Chaos rules. Bears woken from their dens prowl the shadowy valleys. Desperate clans battle for survival. Only demons thrive. Born in Malawi in 1960 to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'NYASALAND TIMES', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three. She was brought up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford, she became a partner in a big City law firm. She gave up the City to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer. She is the author of the brilliantly successful children's series, THE CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS, the final book of which won the 2010 Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize. Michelle Paver has done it again in the eighth book in her epic, emotional Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Stone Age series that began with Wolf Brother. Skin Taker reels with a rollercoaster sense of adventure, shadowy atmosphere and an infectious spirit of survival as Torak, Renn and Wolf must find new ways to exist during the midwinter Dark Time, when new dangers are awoken and devastation looms.

Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - I absolutely adore Paver’s writing style, and the short and beautifully written chapters make her novels so morish. I’ve always loved the artwork at the beginning of each chapter as well. Skin Taker was just as evocative and vivid as her previous works, and the darker apocalyptic tone really gave the story an extra edge. The themes in the book of community, friendship, kindness and respect for the natural world seem to be more important now than ever. It feels like a very important story considering the current climate and I wondered if you had any hopes for what your readers might take away from the book? Once again, Michelle Paver's writing instantly immerses the reader in Torak's world, her meticulous research adding layers of detail and atmosphere ... The characterisation is as strong as ever, making the reader instantly invested in their lives and the choices each has to make on their journey ... Another outstanding story, Skin Taker, like its fellows, deserves more than one reading to truly appreciate the detail and care with which it has been written. I cannot wait for the final instalment' - ReadingZone
