About this deal

Weight: 1,430 g (50.4 oz.) vs. 1,540 g (3.4 lb.) of the Nikon. Together with a full frame body you’ll be schlepping 2.3kg around. [0] A full description of these categories can be found in the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art Lens press release. The tight head shot sample portrait below was captured at near-minimum focus distance with this lens set at 200mm.

Sigma 70-200mm 1:2.8 EX DG OS HSM Review

There's a general downturn at 135mm. At f/2.8 we see 2,981 lines, which is a good result for a high-resolution sensor. Image quality holds steady right around 3,100 lines at f/4 through f/8, and peaks at f/11 (3,382 lines). There's a slight dip in clarity at f/16 (3,210 lines) and a more apparent one at f/22 (2,905 lines).

Alternatives to the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports Lens

If you already have a lens covering some or all of these focal lengths, how does the f/2.8 example compare to that of your current lens' maximum aperture? The extents of the zoom range typically show the most lateral CA with the finging colors reversing in the middle of the focal length range and that is again the case with this lens.

Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 DG OS HSM SPORTS from CameraWorld

Distance information is relayed to the camera, so the Nikon body can do all the advanced exposure-related stuff with this lens. But this is true for all alternatives too. [+] Usually a lens can be made compatible by the manufacturer via a firmware update, but this cannot be guaranteed. The Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG OS HSM Sports Lens has a visually attractive, very high-grade, "dust- and splash-proof" build quality that functions very well and delivers great image quality with optical stabilization aiding significantly in this regard. especially the periphery of the image circle showing color fringing along lines of strong contrast running tangential (meridional, right angles to radii) as this is where the greatest difference in the magnification of wavelengths exists.Size (diam. x length): 86 x 198 mm (3.4×7.8 in.) compared to 87 x 206 mm (3.4 x 8.1 in.) for the Nikon. The lens-hood adds a considerable amount especially once you mount the additional APS-C extender that makes the hood more effective on bodies with APS-C or DX sensors. Mount everything on a DSLR and you’re almost at a total length of 390mm. The lens does not change length during zooming or focusing. [0]
