About this deal

But wait, there is more interaction with furniture introduced. The Sorcerer’s table also has a purpose now. During the quest, Heroes will have the opportunity to collect Lunar Charms. If a Hero searches a room with a Sorcerer table for treasure, they may also restore 1 Body and Mind Point if they are holding a Lunar Charm. The Elf does not require a Lunar Charm to gain this effect from a Sorcerer table. Frustrated, the Heroes have no choice but to follow the Wraith. The Wraith casts Dreadlights on the Guardian Knight, then flees again. So far, I really like what I’ve seen from this expansion. Avalon Hill seems to have delivered a really decent product with an interesting story. For the Dread Wraith, I’ve got an Air Elemental. The actual mini appears to take up 2 spaces, I’ll try to emulate this as best as possible, my Air Elemental takes up 4 spaces, similar to The Frozen Horror. The Dread Cultist will be subbed in for my Crimson Courtiers from Altar Quest. For the Assassin, I’ll be using the Cutpurse, also from Altar Quest. Playtest #1: Dread Wraith, Cultist, & Specters

Thanks to this post from Avalon Hill earlier today, we have some more details for the upcoming HeroQuest expansion Rise of the Dread Moon. Let’s talk about the interface. I love it, my daughter (10) loves it! It’s simple, easy to use, and straightforward. The builder has a pretty easy learning curve, as long as you are familiar with HeroQuest. What I mean by that is, you kind of need to know what all the icons are to understand how to use them. Let’s face it, if you aren’t familiar with HeroQuest, you probably shouldn’t be making quests yet! Get a few quests played and make sure you are familiar with the rules and how existing quests are designed before you get started designing your own. Finally free Elethorn from Zargon's vile clutches! The cards and Quest Book in this fantasy-filled HeroQuest expansion feature artwork that immerses you in the perilous adventure Update 5/19/23: The first official pictures of miniatures for this expansion have finally been revealed here.!

That encounter seemed fairly typical. It went a lot better than the Wraith battle. The Assassin is quite the formidable foe, but against seasoned Heroes, shouldn’t be too much of a problem. When playing an older quest, Zargon can price potions as they are presented in that material or use these new costs if their Dread powers command it.

We can definitely make out “Rise of the Dread”, unfortunately the rest is obscured. The full title can be seen on the side of the box, but it is too small to make out. Anchor Point Indicators on Tiles: It’s not always clear where the anchor point is on the tiles. Some of the tiles are anchored from the bottom middle, others from one of the bottom corners. If there were some kind of arrow on the tiles in the editor, I think it would improve the usability of the program. I’ve encountered a few situations where I’ve had to delete a tile because I guessed the anchor point incorrectly when placing it on the map. HeroQuest was a smash hit for tabletop gaming, as well as becoming a gateway to tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons for millions of players. The game also influenced later tabletop board games that came after, including Games Workshop’s own Warhammer Quest, board games based on D&D, and recent games such as Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Originally published by Milton Bradley and Games Workshop (of Warhammer 40K fame), the original HeroQuest debuted in 1989. In that first game, players took on the roles of the Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, and Wizard to explore the dungeon of the former apprentice of Mentor named Zargon (or Morcar in the UK).THE EPIC ADVENTURE CONTINUES: Finally free Elethorn from Zargon's vile clutches! The cards and Quest Book in this fantasy-filled HeroQuest expansion feature artwork that immerses you in the perilous adventure Thinking that the Wizard is an easy target, the Wraith glides through the bookcase and engages the Wizard. Once again the Wizard is down! This time, with no healing spells left, he breathes his last breath. The Specter has the ability to cast the Dread Spell “Channel Dread” at will. At the very least, this means it can cast the spell once every turn. The “At Will” part may be a little confusing. Can this monster cast the spell outside of Zargon’s turn? I don’t think so, but we’ll have to wait to see if this is specified in the Quest Book. Crafting can only happen at specific times. In between quests, or in the presence of an Alchemist’s Bench. This is interesting, now furniture finally has a purpose other than just sitting there, looking pretty. Don’t get me wrong, it still looks pretty, but it’s nice to have some interaction now.

HeroQuest: Rise of the Dread Moon Review – A Deep Delve

Thanks HispaZargon for the edit! Formerly this was titled "New "Knight" Expansion (PulseCon 2022) News & Discussion" First Youtube fan video unboxing has appeared (Thanks Frank!). It's in Italian and if you want to avoid spoilers (like, quest spoilers) stop the video around 3:00 minute mark, you have been warned! jump to the message where I link it. Thanks to Virg for pointing me in the right direction on this one. Update: My own spoilerific unboxing is here, with cheaper production values and shakier camera but more quest spoilers! I’m insistent that everything should have the graphics for the old EU and US styles as well as HQ21 – which does mean 3 times the work when I add new tiles – but I don’t want to exclude those who have been with the game as long as I have, and may prefer that nostalgic look, or even still play using the OG set. Reddit user u/allnamesaretaken211 found another version of the image: https://www.reddit.com/r/Heroquest/comments/xvpxml/a_new_adventure_for_2023/ Update 6/20/23: Re-upload of HQF latest video covering the flood of new photos from Zavvi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQHUHknJE4UPersonally I prefer my HeroQuest to be kept simple, but there is only so much that can be printed onto a card. This maybe was inevitable. Anyways, getting off topic a bit!

Rise of the Dread Moon Enemies and Details Revealed

The game's core mechanics revolve around a modular game board and meticulously designed miniatures, bringing the world of HeroQuest: Rise of the Dead Moon to life. Players will move their heroes across the board, exploring new areas, solving puzzles, and engaging in tactical combat against the forces of darkness. I also realized that because of the close quarters in the fairly small HeroQuest rooms, it’s actually a bit more difficult than I originally thought to get the full perk from adjacent monsters when casting Channel Dread. Edit: Encarmine confirmed that Elvyler guessed the TRUE title based on the missing word in that Avalon Hill Investors meeting screenshot. Rise of the Dread Moon (not Knights at all!). Great!!

Product Added

Expected availability date may be subject to change, items may arrive earlier or later than anticipated without notice. The action of Crafting itself, is specifically a Wizard action, though it is possible for other Heroes to craft by using a Reagent Kit. I like this new mechanic, if gives the Wizard a new unique ability, similar to the Dwarfs innate ability to disarm traps without a Trap Kit.
