The Z1 also has the ability to shoot in the DNG RAW format. This is generally the best format to shoot photos in to get the highest quality; you do have to edit your images in a program like Lightroom which extends the workflow considerably. The workflow to get the best quality images for the Z1 is much longer than the Theta X; you can get around 70% of the quality with the Theta X in under half the time. For this reason the Theta X is better for those who aren’t photographers themselves but want to use this technology in a professional setting. Ricoh Theta X Review: Summary The Z1 ( review here) has a distinct advantage thanks to its dual 1 inch sensors. The larger the sensor in a lens the more light it can take in and, generally, the better quality image can be produced. The Z1 is the only 360 camera out right now with such large sensors.

The addition of both removable batteries and a microSD card slot to the Theta X remove limits to how long it can be used for; an issue which plagues the Z1 with it’s internal only memory and integrated battery. To be fair the Z1 has recently been upgraded to have 51GB internal memory, enough for a lot of photos and videos. The V and the Z1 used versions of Android 7.x on Qualcomm Snapdragon architectures. Overall the Theta X can shoot high quality 360 images thanks to the very high max resolution, particularly using the auto HDR mode. Some people may be disappointed that the Theta X does not have a RAW mode or larger sensors like the Theta Z1, which does impact the image quality.The hashtag #theta360 can now be added from "theta360.com" – "SNS Share" in the menu when posting images to social networking services. Easier to connect wirelessly (switch bands). On previous Ricoh Thetas, it was sometimes difficult to connect the phone app with the camera. On the Theta X, I’ve always been able to connect. Ricoh has a series of plugins available for their Theta cameras which adds new features and functionality to their cameras. Many of these plugins are made by Ricoh themselves but others are made by the community. The “Auto switching to live streaming” function was added. It is possible to select “On” or “Off” for this function. If this function is set to “On”, the camera automatically enters live streaming mode when the camera with the shooting screen displayed is connected to a computer with a USB cable. This function is set to “Off” by default.
