Change the input color format to PC RGB or YPbPr in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD). Video inputs include DisplayPort 1.4 with Display Stream Compression (DSC) for visually lossless compression and High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP 2.2) support so you can stream Netflix at the full UHD resolution, HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2 support, and USB-C with DSC support (DisplayPort 1.4 and HDCP 2.2). However, you still retain the extra pixels and the enlarged visual space which are nice to have if you are multitasking or editing. Games will look better no questions asked, although you will need a more powerful GPU to keep your framerate consistent.

With a 60Hz refresh rate and 5ms response time, this also isn’t ideal for gaming – although you can get away with some slower-paced ones, especially because open-world games look fabulous in 4K. However, unless you turn on V-Sync, you’ll notice some stuttering and maybe even some tearing. Featuring a large, 31.5-inch IPS panel with a 3840 x 2160 4K resolution, the image produced by the P3222QE is pleasantly sharp on the eyes with great color performance. The panel is capable of 1.07-billion colors, with a rated gamut covering 99% of the sRGB space. As such, this isn’t a wide gamut monitor, nor does it come with factory calibration, so we’ll see how it fares in our testing momentarily. Dell also promises a static contrast ratio of 1000:1 which is what’s expected from an IPS panel, and typical brightness is rated at 350 nits. However, it’s limited to 65 watts, so it might not be able to charge the more powerful workstation laptops while they are in use. 65 watts is enough for notebooks and some light tasks like office work, but those who use heavy apps might not get sufficient charging. Dell should have pushed for 90 watts, but that’s the main feature of their upper-tier models. The U3223QE includes the term “USB-C Hub” in its lengthy full name, and that’s for a good reason. Built into the display is a well-configured USB-C hub that can make using a laptop in the office a true convenience. There’s even a KVM (keyboard, video, and mouse) switch built in, making it easy to swap sources. And, in a switch from the P3222QE, power delivery to a laptop is higher at 90 watts versus 65 watts. That extends the range of laptops that can be fully powered by the hub, although that still leaves a universe of machines requiring proprietary power adapters.One feature that is missing from this monitor is built-in KVM switch. Other monitors, such as the Dell U2723QE, allow you to switch between multiple computers from the keyboard (hence the name KVM, short for Keyboard, Video, and Mouse switch). The P3223QE only has one USB input, so while you can connect more than one computer at a time to the three video inputs, you can’t switch between them from the keyboard and keep control of each computer.

Hard drive retention: Hard drive retention is not available on models with a soldered hard drive, including XPS 9315 2in1, Chromebooks or Venue tablets, except the Venue 11 Pro. Dell P3222QE Usage and Troubleshooting Guide
The Dell P3222QE has a decent response time even if it wasn’t designed for gaming and its limited to 60Hz. You have to set its overdrive to its Fast setting to get this, although there will still be some persistence in fast-paced scenes. Maxing out the overdrive will not help since it will induce overshoot which is worse than the minor smudges in the first place. The idea of this monitor is that you plug the USB-C cable into your laptop and it handles everything – you get power to charge the laptop and the same cable handles video and other accessories. So when you get home you just plug in the single USB cable and the monitor starts up, connects to your external mouse and keyboard and other devices, and charges your laptop at the same time. After using the Spyder X Elite to calibrate the display and re-evaluate its performance, we found that we squeezed out 1% more sRGB coverage and color accuracy was improved to an impressive Delta-E of just 1.01. The white point was also refined, so all things considered, there is still an improvement to be found in the P3222QE’s performance with just a simple calibration. But, the image is more than good enough for most use cases, so unless you’re doing professional editing work, we’d just leave it as is. Our take Calibrating the Dell P3222QE with a colorimeter lowered its dE average to a fantastic 0.71 which puts it in editing monitor territory. However, colorimeters aren’t always accessible and they are quite expensive for most users. It is only necessary if you are into editing and content creation or if you already have one on hand.Dell does not make any claims to coverage of DCI-P3—a color space designed for digital video—but we measured it at 90.8%, a good measure for a monitor not geared to that mode. We also measured it as covering 81.2% of Adobe RGB—good for a general-purpose monitor, although photographers working in that space will want to opt for a monitor with more complete coverage—such as the Lenovo ThinkVision P32u-10, which fills 99.7% of Adobe RGB, or a full-fledged professional monitor such as the NEC MultiSync PA311D-BK. The Dell P3222QE is great as an all-arounder, but it does have its limitations such as no Adaptive-Sync support and its 65-watt charging. The Dell U3219Q which is more or less the same monitor can be had for less, although it is not as available now since it’s a 2019 model. Overall, it’s a decent buy, but there are more capable monitors out there like Dell’s Collaboration monitors that include a more capable 4K variant. A few permanently bright or dark pixels are considered normal by industry standards. The exact number of pixels that are allowed varies depending on the monitor. There’s a ton of connectivity driven through the USB-C connection, along with more juice than is typical at 90 watts of power delivery and KVM support. It’s an excellent solution for anyone who wants to connect a laptop without futzing with unplugging and plugging a keyboard, mouse, Ethernet, audio, and various peripherals.
