DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is DJI’s first foldable gimbal and is the perfect way to create smooth cinematic footage on your smartphone. Here, we’ll show you how to get started with Osmo Mobile 3 in no time! The DJI Mimo App Timelapse: there are four default ways to record this: fixed, sequence, right-to-left or reverse. You can also set up a custom motion with up to four positions for the gimbal to maneuver between. The most significant addition is the new display bar on the device's main handle. Green indicates it's ready to go; yellow tells you if Bluetooth (now 5.1) is not connected; and red signals that the battery is about to die. The side wheel is also a nice addition; however, I found zooming in and out on a scene with it was not as smooth as expected. I had a slightly better experience dragging my finger across the bar on the screen. The biggest relief is how much easier it is to unfold the device and connect my mobile device. With the OM 5 I was afraid of breaking it. For a long time, you had to choose between buying a camera that snapped still photos or moving pictures. But the lines have eroded over the years, and the mirrorless interchangeable lens systems that dominate the camera market today are true hybrid devices that are just as good at recording 4K and 8K video as they are at snapping high-quality Raw photos.

Design Overall, the DJI Osmo 6 is really steady and using it to capture imagery is a breeze. That said, if you're aiming to get shots like those you see in DJI's promo videos for this device, it is going to take some trial and error. As smartphones and their cameras get more sophisticated, it can make sense for many people not only to use them to capture moments but add tools to make their imagery more professional.

The Osmo Mobile 6 has a status bar showing connectivity, battery life and gimbal mode. The side wheel allows you to zoom in and out on subjects or adjust manual focus.As a disclaimer, I own an OM 5 and use it for a variety of purposes. Would I upgrade to the Osmo Mobile 6? Probably not. While the side wheel and status bar are nice upgrades, they're not substantial enough to justify selling mine to acquire the newer version – especially since the new Fill Light is also compatible with the OM 5. I'm going to wait and see what the next generation has to offer.

How to Update Firmware The Mimo app keeps getting cleaner and more sophisticated. However, I found ShotGuides to be a bit overwhelming. There a ton of categories, each of which contains a lot of angles with video examples. Sometimes I wasn't sure if I was shooting a take or watching the tutorial. Also, City Themes can send you on scavenger hunts, for example to find a traffic light. While DJI lists the number of times each theme has been used in-app, I don't see this type of content on the social feeds I follow.
As for the gimbal’s battery life, the OM 5 is powered by a 1,000mAh cell, which is significantly smaller than that of the OM 4, which was 2,460mAh. It therefore lasts around half the time. That's sad, but with around six hours of life from a single charge, we’re not too upset. Six hours of use time is plenty for a gimbal, and the fact it isn’t a portable power bank will mean that battery isn’t going to be shared with other devices. DJI Mimo app We got the DJI OM 4 to pair with our iPhone and Android phones via the iOS and Play Store app called DJI Mimo, and it instantly recognized the new gimbal via a Bluetooth connection. We didn't have to dive into our phone's settings menu to pair it. Unlike previous Osmo Mobile models, Osmo Mobile 3 now connects to your phone through the DJI Mimo app. By using Osmo Mobile 3 with DJI Mimo app, users can take advantage of new features like Story mode, which allows you to easily shoot, edit, and share your everyday moments. If past generation DJI OMs and Osmo Mobiles have looked like computer game props straight out of Ready Player One, the OM 5 shakes things up, going in a much more organic direction. Its curves are soft, its shapes more natural than industrial, and one friend even joked it looks like an intimate aid. There are more controls than most smartphone camera apps give you, with a few exceptions on Android flagship phones. On the iPhone, it's a pro version of Apple's default camera app without sacrificing ease of use (you still can't configure time lapse settings on the iPhone's default app, even in iOS 14 beta).

The DJI OM 4 lasts 15 hours on a single charge with a 2,450mAh battery capacity (the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 3,969mAh battery size), which was more than enough when we were shooting with it on a hot summer weekend and charging our phone with it via the USB-A port (so handy, as we had screen brightness to the max). The shooting capabilities of the Osmo Mobile 2 depend on what type of mobile phone system you use. Consequently, Android users may not be able to use the fully-optimized functions of the Osmo Mobile 2. DJI is working with Android phone manufacturers to provide a better user experience to all Android users. We thank you for your patience and understanding. The two questions we get asked the most about this gimbal series when showing it off are: "How long does it last?" and "Is the battery replaceable?" In both cases, the answer from us is a smug and belabored: "It doesn't really matter". More importantly, the DJI OM 4 ran less hot than the Osmo Mobile 3 when we were using it for an all-day shoot outdoors in the sun. Our Note 20 Ultra got much hotter when we were recording video.DJI touted that its new gimbal has enhanced motors inside, and that plays a roll not just in better stabilization, but how hard the motors have to work to stabilize your phone.

To balance Osmo Mobile 3, place your smartphone in the phone holder, making sure the DJI logo is facing forward with the phone camera on the left. Adjust your phone’s position until it stays still. If your smartphone falls to one side, adjust its position until it remains level. A status bar informs you when the device is connected and ready to go with a small indicator on the top left; green means it’s ready to use. Directly underneath it is the battery’s status. When the battery hits 20% or less, it will turn red. Directly to the right of both is an indicator showing which of the device’s four gimbal modes are activated. Whether you are looking for device for traveling or just everyday shooting, DJI Osmo Mobile 3 offers you power, portability, and cinematic potential. Everything else about the DJI OM 4 feels similar if you've used a smartphone gimbal before: it combines the 3-axis motors and electronic image stabilization to create a neat dolly effect for your video, the balancing to set things up is minimal, and the entire gimbal folds down, a perk introduced in the Osmo Mobile 3. The rest of the DJI OM 4 shape hasn't changed: there's a rubberized pistol grip for holding this lightweight gimbal comfortably and a motorized arm that pans and tilts your smartphone in an effort to counteract your shaky hand and arm movement.
