About this deal

mm | 1/160 sec | f/3.8As far as the overall performance of the TG-6 is concerned, everything works well. Generally, an underwater housing is expensive and might limit your access to camera settings. Best case scenario, you invest a lot of money to get your camera into the water. But this is a lot to invest and most people won’t do it on a whim. You’ve got to be sure you want to be in the water a lot to make it worth the investment.

The Olympus Tough TG-6 is the company's sixth-generation premium underwater camera. It features a 12 Megapixel sensor, 4X optical zoom lens, numerous sensors and, of course, serious protection against the elements. Key specifications On top of that, once I finally looked up on the web how to do things, they didn’t work as described. I’m not sure if that’s because the camera I was reviewing had been used before or what, but it was entirely frustrating.Pop Art (I, II), Soft Focus, Pale&Light Color (I, II), Light Tone, Grainy Film (I, II), Pin Hole (I, II, III), Diorama (I, II), Cross Process (I, II), Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone (I, II), Key Line (I, II), Watercolor (I, II), Vintage (I, II, III), Partial Color (I, II, III) When the mode dial is already set to (Underwater mode), press the arrow pad Left button to select other sub modes. The Olympus Tough TG-6 boasts an attractive mix of sporty and industrial design courtesy of visible faceplate screws, which should appeal to photographers and action junkies wanting the best of both those worlds.

As the name implies, this is the sixth camera in the Tough TG series from Olympus. First released in 2019, it retains a formula that has remained basically the same since the TG-1 – pairing a 1/2.3-inch sensor with a 25-100mm equivalent lens, providing an imaging combination that isn't going to blow anyone away but works well enough for photography in the water and out. Here’s the best part; in P mode, you have direct access to exposure compensation with the camera dial. Your camera will hardly ever get the exposure just as you want it. So use the exposure compensation feature to brighten or darken the photo before you take the picture. The TG-6 is a pretty standard point-and-shoot from a handling perspective. Its handgrip is decently deep, and the camera ships with a cloth wrist strap that you can use on land and under water. The battery is charged while it sits inside the camera via a combination of a USB lead and mains plug connector, rather than a separate mains charger being provided (although one is available). This both keeps the cost down, and allows for the device to be charged on the fly from a laptop.

The lens ring on the TG-6 is only cosmetic and has no effect on the waterproof or dustproof ability of the camera. The TG-6 is equipped with a 4x optical zoom. At the wide-angle end of the lens, the 35mm equivalent focal length is 25mm. Colours directly from the camera are on-the-whole vibrant and punchy. There's a burst capture mode, supporting speeds up to 20fps for very short durations, about 9 shots. It will keep going, but drops to about 6fps. It's still useful for capturing short bursts of action, and you can set the burst rate to a lower speed if you'd like. As far as who this camera is for, I’d say this is the perfect camera for everyday shooters who don’t want to worry about breaking their camera and, even more so, underwater photographers. The Wi-Fi system requires an app to work, Olympus Image Share. It's available for Android and iOS. It's not a new app by any means, but it has an annoying new feature. A few months ago, it started to send push notifications to my phone, alerting me of somewhat useful news like free webinars from pro photographers, to spammy alerts on products going on sale.Turn the mode dial to (Underwater mode) for underwater photography. Select the appropriate shooting mode from (Underwater Snapshot), (Underwater Wide), (Underwater Macro) and (Underwater Microscope) and (Underwater HDR) using the arrow pad Right and Left button or the control dial. Pro Capture mode saves photos before and after the shutter release is pressed, to help you capture the right moment
