About this deal

These are some of the questions posed by David Keenan’s Monument Maker, an epic romance set in an eternal summer, and a descent into history and the errors of the past; a novel with a sweep and range that runs from the siege of Khartoum and the conquest of Africa in the 19th century through the Second World War and up to the present day, where the memories of one summer and an unforgettable love affair unravel. Standard monuments. Traditional and vintage grave marker designs as seen in cemeteries all over the world, in a wide range of alternative shapes and cuts.

With Shawn Fields' marvelous pen and ink sketches, Linda Booth Sweeney tells this story of a boy who grew up on a farm, then small towns in Massachusetts who became a famous sculptor whose work can be found in many places, foremost in our capitol. He didn't do well in school, loved being out in nature observing and drawing birds. The story shares that one time he carved a turnip into a frog and his parents noticed his talent as he discovered what he was going to do in his life. He did different studies in art. When the family moved to Concord, he took art lessons from May Alcott, Louisa May Alcott's sister. His first commission, at age twenty, was of the "Minuteman" leaving his plow, found now at The Old North Bridge. He went to Italy to study with a famous sculptor. Thus, he began this artist life. The premise of the book is rather straightforward. French loved the outdoors, where he would sketch endlessly. He tended the family farm, working his artistry into the plowing of the fields and repairs to the fences and outbuildings. Having grown up during the Civil War, he was influenced by the event and its idealistic aspects, especially those espoused by his Transcendentalist neighbors. The short answer is he didn’t. It was the voices in his head that wrote it. And I don’t mean the voices of the writer’s imagination; we’re talking other worldly voices. Supernatural stuff. He hears dead people. For cost savings, you can change your plan at any time online in the “Settings & Account” section. A better one is: why did Keenan dedicate his book “To the glory of God”? I found this book on the 2020 list of Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People. This book was named 2020 Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year. I read this digitally on Epic and was able to see the illustrations very well. Patten’s IdeaBook offers a nearly limitless number of artistic combinations for you and your family to consider for your loved one’s custom mausoleum, gravestone or memorial. Its goal is to help you create a compelling, lasting image that perfectly captures the life and memories of the departed. Custom Headstones for Generations of Memories This book is absolutely fantastic and essentially beyond my powers of description. Although there is a lot I can say about it, this book’s great value is bound up in the experience of reading it. In my view, Keenan is phenomenally successful in his stated (paraphrased) aim to create a space and/or narrative that is outside of time or something that is not/not of oneself. There wasn’t a single time, in the week that I devoured this book, where I did not very actively look forward to my next frolic through Keenan’s clouds and meadows of language.

Monument Maker came through our house because of the Cybils Awards. Had I not been a judge, I would have passed it over. The cover is grey and shows the Lincoln Memorial – not particularly eye-catching or exciting. I would have glanced at it and thought, "Huh. Don't really want to read about the Lincoln Memorial." And that would have been a mistake.Biography buffs, artists-in-the-making, and New Englanders will especially enjoy Monument Maker, but I encourage any readers to not overlook this hidden gem. LENNY KAYE In a dizzying gyroscopic vortex of inner archeology, David Keenan sifts through spiraling past lives to unearth his provocative vision of the future. A colossus of imagination Keenan hasn’t really got much sense of pacing or scene craft; most of his writing is a kind of rambling discourse, sometimes of a pseudo-philosophical nature. He seems particularly interested in the relationship between art and life, along the lines of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18, where the artwork preserves the object of the poet’s love. Here, for instance, is the nameless Scottish narrator: Religious affiliation. Symbols, icons and images illustration devotion to multiple faiths and creeds.

Daniel’s journey is inspiring for not only artists but for anyone who is looking for their passion. I loved the support Daniel’s family provided and the unique setting of Concord, Massachusetts at the time that Daniel was growing up among men such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Louisa May Alcott’s family. The illustrations are amazing and contribute to the feel of the sculptures. Great history and human-interest story. Occupational images. Representations of a life’s work, including tools, union logos, fraternal crests and shields, work scenes, and other images. Keenan believes in God - “I’ve always been religious” - and he believes in Art. “I believe art can transform your life - it’s true because it transformed mine.”
