About this deal

Amp will be driving my stereo Dali Spektor 1 speakers, (83 dB/W/m, 6 ohms, recommends 40-100W/channel). I may want to drive my Bose SoundLink AE2 headphones sometimes, but driving speakers is most important for me. So I could go for the SMSL SA300 which doesn't have a headphone output.

Loxjie is a new brand for us here at Headfonics but they have been operating for around 4 years with a specialism in competitively priced DACs and digital amplifiers in a not too dissimilar fashion to brands such as Topping and SMSL. Measuring 15.1 x 17.0 x 3.8 centimeters, the D30 is compact. It features a similar build to SMSL’s M400, only smaller. The D30 has an all-aluminum chassis and it feels quite durable in hand. Thanks to its compact body and the fact that it is an AIO solution, it doesn’t take a lot of space on your desk. The has a smooth to touch grey finish and it resists scratches up to a degree. The unit comes with a good resolution IPS screen and a multifunctional volume wheel that also acts as a navigation button. As a speaker amplifier, the A30 plays substantially loud, with the 2 speakers that I tested, the A30 easily drove them to ear-splitting levels. Connected to my Wharfedale Diamond 9.4, the D30 only needed to be cranked up to 25 to reach my comfortable listening levels. With my Monitor Audio Monitor 100 speaker, I needed around 30 to reach my comfortable listening levels. Less bass, but more extension, more controlled - this is likely from the inherent bass-light tonality of the Motu M4 I calculated the volume at my listening position and even at 6 ohms, 20 watts i would get 100 DBa - but no clue if that's even loud enough.Despite having an amplification stage the D30 is primarily marketed as a DAC. Inside, Loxjie has gone with the ESS 9068AS DAC implementation with a second-generation XMOS USB controller with a decoding capability of up to 32BIT/768kHz PCM, DSD 512, and MQA.

the loxjie seems to have a bit more "warmth?" by which i mean higher output volume in the lower mids. Because the BT antenna is mounted at a right angle and cannot be swung out, it's imperative that you mount the antenna first, before plugging in any other connections. The A30 doesn’t create an artificially expansive soundstage, instead, it just maintains the natural sense of space and width of the soundstage. The imaging presentation is generally accurate allowing for images within the soundstage to be directionally accurate, creating a center image that’s crisp and well defined, while off-center images may not be as strikingly accurate. Of course, 'best' sound quality will differ depending on the application and setup. Here is my usage scenario - any custom advice would be awesome but feel free to skip this: Convenient, the Loxjie A30 allows you to receive your audio files remotely, in Bluetooth, directly from your smartphone. The Bluetooth 5.0 standard combined with the aptX protocol allows for a stable and high quality transmission. EQ Mode The medium-grey matte finish is flawless, and the manufacturing quality excellent considering the modest asking price. Most amplifiers of late strive to adhere to a very strict standard of neutrality, however, the A30 goes against the grain by injecting some coloration into the music.
