The Spacesuits (04:31) - The design and construction of the film's spacesuits is covered along with the challenges of acting in them. The conclusions that are reached can appear hokey on the surface. There's an "I've seen this somewhere else," vibe near the end. But, with Nolan's keen directorial eye, focused on the wonder of practical special effects, and a dominating performance from McConaughey, 'Interstellar' overcomes most of its faults and satisfies in the end. The Simulation of Zero-G– Gravity plays a huge role in the film and has multiple repercussions, though this is more focused on the actors’ and how they dealt with varying degrees of gravity. Across All Dimensions and Time—A look at the concept and design of the Tesseract, which incorporated a practical set rather than a green screen. The Endurance– A look at the spaceship in the film, its resemblance to the International Space Station and a tour of the inside (which looks conspicuously like another we’ve seen before…)The Space Suits—A look at the design and build of the suits and helmets, and what it was like to wear them.

So when it was announced that he’d direct the long-awaited Interstellar, which once had Steven Spielberg’s name attached to it, people took notice. It didn’t hurt the film with a freshly-crowned Oscar winner by the name of Matthew McConaughey in the lead role, either. With Nolan’s attention to detail, his own brother (Jonathan) as co-writer and a top notch cast – the die was set. Inside 'Interstellar' (HD, 1 hr. 50 min.) – This behind-the-scenes documentary features 14 featurettes: "Plotting an 'Interstellar' Journey," "Life on Cooper's Farm," "The Dust," "Tars and Case," "The Cosmic Sounds of 'Interstellar,'" "The Space Suits," "The Endurance," "Shooting in Iceland: Miller's Planet/Mann's Planet," "The Ranger and the Lander," "Miniatures in Space," "The Simulation of Zero-G," "Celestial Landmarks," "Across All Dimensions and Time," "and "Final Thoughts." As you can tell from the titles they cover just about every interesting aspect of the film's production. Ones to really watch are "Tars and Case," which discusses the practical and digital effects that went into the movie's unique robots and "Miniatures in Space" which shows how some of the awesome deep space images were created and filmed.

In the near future the Earth is suffering from a drought. The “Dust Bowl” that happened in the mid west in the 1930’s has become a worldwide problem. Crops are drying up and huge dust storms are commonplace. Farmer/Engineer Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his family aren’t immune to the climate changes, either. However, it so happens that they discover some sort of code that leads Cooper to the headquarters of NASA. He’s informed that they’re sending a shuttle into space to try and solve the drought on Earth. Cooper, along with a skeleton crew, head off into the bowels of space and head for a wormhole that will allow them to travel beyond our solar system. The odds of survival are slim. Will Cooper and his crew be able to navigate the dangers of space and save the Earth or are they doomed? Life on Cooper’s Farm– We get a look at the location of the farm (in Canada, not the Mid-West), the immense corn field that was actually planted (and later sold, which turned a profit) as well as some of the accruements of the Cooper place. The Dust– The dust, which played a big part in the Earth sequences, was done on film as opposed to during post-production, for a more realistic effect. Celestial Landmarks—Explore how the filmmakers used practical special effects informed by real scientific equations to give the illusion of real space travel for both the actors and the audience.Life on Cooper's Farm (09:43) - The story of the lengths the filmmakers went to to create a corn working outside Calgary in Canada, including building a farm house for exterior and interior photography and growing 500 acres of corn.

TARS and CASE (09:27) - A detailed look at the two intelligent mobile machines in the film, how they were designed and brought to life for the film. The Ranger and the Lander (12:20) - The design and construction of the Ranger spacecraft and the Lander spacecraft with another walk-through from production designer Nathan Crowley. The disc includes a great set of extras that reveal all that went into making such an ambitious film. When Cooper learns that NASA has remained active, in secret, he's called upon by old friend Professor Brand (Michael Caine) to save humanity. No matter how much corn they try to grow, humankind will eventually succumb to the Earth's dusty future. Extinction of the human race is inevitable if they can't find a new place to live. A worm hole next to Saturn is discovered. Viable worlds lay in wait on the other side. Cooper, along with Brand's daughter (Anne Hathaway), and a small team set out to find out what's on the other side of the worm hole.Plotting an Interstellar Journey– The filmmakers and some members of the cast look at the project ahead of them. How it will be filmed, some of the IMAX footage within as well as some of the logistics of the project as a whole. The included extras are all presented in high definition and provide an in-depth look at the making of the film and are generally excellent, in fact our only real complaint would be that there's no 'play all' feature for the various sections which means you have to select each one individually. Final Thoughts– Just that. The cast and crew give us their impressions on the film as a whole and its possible repercussions on the real-world. Next up is the 14-part Inside Interstellar documentary, which offers 122 minutes worth of behind-the-scenes material on the film’s production. There’s no “play all” option – you simply select each individual featurette from the disc’s menus. You even get to spend time with Zimmer as he carefully crafts his score, then records it in the midst of an English cathedral.
