About this deal

If Only They Could Talk" is the first of a series of books that are essentially memoirs of Herriot's experiences as a young veterinarian in the Yorkshire Dales, beginning in the 1930s. It is a heartwarming and humorous account of his encounters with animals and their owners, as well as his struggles to establish himself as a veterinarian in a rural community. In the book, James Herriot has many strong characteristics which help him through his tough, and demanding, career. He has a vast knowledge of his practice, as well as his employer and friend, Siegfried Farnon. James Herriot has a great sense of humor, and is able to take embarrassment excellently. He also works well in strange or uncomfortable situations. James Herriot’s most endearing quality is his deep passion and concern for his patients. Heartbreaking and hilarious in equal measure, If Only They Could Talk is a book for all those who find laughter and joy in animals, and who know and understand the magic and beauty of Britain’s wild places. Siegfried was very happy because his hens have given him 10 eggs! Tristan, as usual, was in charge of feeding the animals, but today he was distracted by the hens for some minutes, and the pigs escaped. The pigs were running and making disasters all along the city, when he realized that the pigs had escaped he let the door of the hen house open and the hens escaped too! Siegfried was really angry with Tristan for what had happened and he sent him to look for the animals all over the town. Life with Siegfried and Tristan. Description of Skeldale and of Boardman. James getting used to life in the Dales. To be honest, I was quite disappointed by this book. He talks way too much (in my opinion) about the weather, the ongoing discussions between his boss and his brother, their secretary and the animal owners instead of going into more details about treating the animals and the animals themselves, it's all quite superficial to me. I even struggled to finish this book. Siegfried asks for help with the dog to another famous vet in town Mr. Grier. Mr. Grier was known for being one of the roughest veterinarian teachers in town. Herriot arrives to Yorkshire Dales looking for a job as Veterinary Surgeon Assistant with the veterinarian Siegfried Farnon. In the series, Siegfried tells James that the horse is “a colt”. The “colt” drags Siegfried across a field. As long as I can remember , I always wanted to be a vet till I was around 17 when I found out , I wasn't doing too well with seeing the insides of animals. Many years later my vet needed some urgent assistance during a surgery on one of my dogs and I had no problem with seeing what I saw so maybe I missed my calling after all. Winter had arrived in Yorkshire Dales and James Herriot had to work at first hour of the day with an unconscious cow. James injected some calcium to the cow and at the next day it was totally recovered. Copper family invites Mr. James to take breakfast with them. James Alfred Wight, the British veterinary surgeon and writer, is renowned for his semi-autobiographical works written under the name ' James Herriot', which chronicle some of the most amusing moments from his life as a veterinarian. His reminiscences as a surgeon are pleasantly mild and warm to read and his style of narration that describe his adventures with the animals and their owners is of the most hilarious form that can make even the most serious of the reader burst out in a laugh. Apart from being incredibly entertaining, Herriot’s books also offer a historical perspective at the practice of veterinary science that was followed in Britain during the time period.

I haven’t been able to review any more episodes lately because I’m away from my DVD collection, so I’m losing ground on you! Ini betul-betul salah satu buku yang mempengaruhi hidupku :). Alf Wight, seorang dokter hewan dari Yorkshire, menovelisasi hidupnya dan menggunakan nama samaran James Herriot. James treats Phin Calvert’s calves for lead poisoning with Epsom salts and saves his bull from heatstroke by cooling him with water. If only they could talk” is the first of many books that follow the same historical line in James Herriot’s life. Like “If Only They Could Talk” (1970) , It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet (1972) , Let Sleeping Vets Lie (1973), Vet in Harness (1974), Vets Might Fly (1976) ,Vet in a Spin (1977), James Herriot's Yorkshire (1979), The Lord God Made Them All (1981), Every Living Thing (1992), James Herriot's Cat Stories (1994), and James Herriot's Favourite Dog Stories (1995).On a winter night last June, José Antonio Tuki, a 30-year-old artist on Easter Island, sat on Anakena beach and stared at the enormous human statues there – the moai. The statues are from four feet tall to 33 feet tall. Some weigh more than 80 tons. They were carved, a long time ago, with stone tools and then they were moved up to 11 miles to the beach. Tuki stares at their faces and he feels a connection. ‘This is something that was produced by my ancestors,’ he says. ‘How did they do it?’
