If you’re looking to go on a family camping adventure, you’ll first need the right tent. We’ve put together 15 family tents that our camping experts recommend for 2023. We’ve also included everything you should look for in a family tent before purchasing one. What to look for when buying a new family tent The declared capacity is 6 people, so imagine how luxurious this is when you have no less than 192 ft² (17.8 m²) of the inner area plus 41 ft² (3.8 m²) under the porch. This gives around 32 ft² (3 m²) of the inner area per person. So the declared capacity here is very generous, and this is not always so as you can read in my separate textwhere I discuss the issue of the tent capacity. To make the decision a little easier, here are our top 3 tips on purchasing your perfect family tent. Bought this tent on a friends recommendation we now have a group of friends (5 families) all with Hampton 6’s and we all love them! Others have gone into the detail of the tent so here are my more general comments.Large lounge (270cm x 380cm) offers a spacious area to spread out with 2 large windows on either side, 1 doubles up as a door. All rooms are full height standing rooms. The living area is huge, more than 10 square meters, and with all those windows on its three sides. While it’s important you like the look of your tent, there’s no point in going for something that looks stylish, when ultimately, it might not keep you warm and dry. While we do live in a beautiful country, the weather is unpredictable at best. Therefore, it’s worth looking at the waterproof rating of any tent, also known as the Hydrostatic Head rating. The rating measures the quantity of rain the tent can withstand in millimetres. It’s key to remember that the higher the score, the more durable the tent. • Is it spacious enough for your family? The fabric: The shell fabric is a polyester with a 4000 mm waterproof rating. The seams are taped. They do not provide information about the floor material, but note that it is fully sewn-in and sealed.The inner tent has yet another extra floor. The tent has mesh on the doors, and in addition to this, they have added several vents. You have low vents on the long sides plus a large rear vent behind the bedrooms area. the inner bedrooms have openings that match the rear vent so you can keep them open for more air, see one in the picture: Inner bedrooms with vents.
Light and airy with lots of windows all with blinds and a great sized front porch for cooking and sitting under even in inclement weather. The bedroom area whilst will sleep 6 we think it is more suited to four., the bedroom inner tent is great with a removable divider. Perfect for a small family camping trip, the Vango Beta 450XL can comfortably accommodate up to four people. The tent gives an impressive space-to-weight ratio due to its tunnel design. I would describe it as a true 3-season tent.
