About this deal

On most tap indicator covers, if you look closely around the edge you will see a little recess. Using a flat edge screwdriver, insert the flat edge into the recess and wiggle it under the cover and prise it up. In some instances there won’t be a recess so you will just have to use a very small screwdriver and gently slide it under the indicator cover to prise it off, being careful not to damage it. You will need a few important tools to fix the leaking tap, we recommend that you get together these parts now to save you having to find these parts in the middle of your DIY job: To remove the tap head, simply prise off the tap indicator cover and remove the retaining screw beneath it. Once the screw is removed the tap head should then simply pull off. Mixer taps have several advantages over traditional individual pillar taps in that the overall temperature of any flowing water is much easier to control and adjust, often just by moving a lever. However if it is an older tap then it may still have a washer in place that may be worn or there may be wear in the valve seat.

Aside from leaks from the open end of the spout it’s also possible for it to leak around the base, as we have stated above. To do this, find out below. Pecev recommends starting here, 'If you have a dripping faucet, then it's pretty clear cut where the leak is coming from, and that is out of the waterspout. If you have pooling water around your faucet, then it might mean that your leak is situated around the joints or hinges. If you have a leak under your sink, then the likelihood is that there is a problem with your supply lines or your waste pipe.'First thing to do is isolate the tap, you can do this by closing the isolation valve on the pipe. Using the flat screw driver, turn the valve a quarter-turn. Once you have isolated the tap, simply open it to release any water still in the pipe. New Relic uses this cookie to store a session identifier so that New Relic can monitor session counts for an application. Now, what you are looking for is a screw that will allow you to remove the tap. In some models this is located under the hot and cold caps which you can remove by hand or pop off with a slotted screwdriver, if you are stopping a leak in a monobloc tap, the screw can often be found underneath the temperature indicator button.

Mixer tap spout and retaining screw refitted after replacing leaking seal Additional Fourth Type Of Mixer Tap Before fixing anything, the first job to do is to identify exactly where the leak is coming from. With a mixer tap this is fairly easy as there is really only 2 points it can leak from; the top of the spout or the bottom. Some taps will have caps and covers on the knobs to make them look nicer. Prise these off with a flathead screwdriver and put them somewhere safe. Unscrew the tap handleThere are generally two types of valves in taps, and the type of valve you have will determine which washers you need. As you can easily mix and adjust the temperature of the water in the actual tap as opposed to the bath or basin you’re filling, they are also much safer to use and avoid the age-old process of dipping a finger or toe to see if you get burnt or frozen! If this is the case you might consider investing in a water softener as this will increase the life of these sorts of parts and other appliances too.
