About this deal

Hard disk drives will extract files slower due to the resulting files being non-contiguous (i.e., spread out across the disk). Because storage device writes are often slower than reading speeds, we've found that game installs/ patches can be pretty frustrating to wait for if you're using a slower storage device. Our testing uses the Fanxiang S660 4TB as the boot drive for the system, installed in the M.2_1 slot on the motherboard. This slot supports up to PCIe Gen 5 x4. The drive is filled to 85% capacity with data, and then some is deleted, leaving around 60% used space on the volume. All in all, Fanxiang SSDs are some of the best value drives on the market. They’re cheap but durable, with speeds that rival their Samsung and Western Digital-made counterparts. As an avid gamer with extensive experience building and upgrading gaming PCs, I always prioritize maximizing overall speed. In my experience, using an SSD in a PC, laptop, or gaming console can significantly improve performance. In this article, I discuss the Fanxiang S500 Pro 1 TB (model S500 Pro 1 TB) and evaluate its impact on gaming and overall SSD performance.

The primary difference between the S770 and S880 is that the S880 uses SLC caching, while the S770 has DRAM.The S770’s 2TB variation is the cheapest drive of its capacity by far in the 7000-plus MB/s class, as is the S880 1TB in the same category. High customer review averages are of the utmost importance, since defect rate can’t be gauged by testing one or even several units. Over thousands of units, however, a brand’s consistency and QC quality becomes more apparent. Fanxiang’s Quality Control process Fanxiang Drive Speeds We were impressed by the Fanxiang S500 Pro 1 TB's exceptional read and write speeds, making it an excellent gaming choice. Based on my experience working with a range of SSDs offering similar speeds, I can ensure that game loading times will be significantly reduced compared to HDDs, resulting in an exceptional gaming experience.

CrystalDiskInfo can give us some basic information about the SSD and confirms we are operating at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds using NVMe 1.4. Test System ConfigurationWe can estimate that a hard drive could extract an update at an average write speed of 50 MB/s and read speed of 200 MB/s. At this rate, a hard disk drive would take 1.5 minutes to extract 6 GB of files during the game update. Their SATA SSDs, most notably the S101, are similarly priced to compete, but we don’t think these merit as much consideration since the only real use-case for these is in builds with insufficient or no M.2 slots. With these slots becoming increasingly ubiquitous in motherboards every year, SATA SSDs are on their way out, as NVMe becomes the new gold standard. Fanxiang Quality Likewise, many tests of the 256GB model reveal slightly better speeds than advertised: 2886MB/s and 2182MB/s sequential reads and writes, versus advertised speeds of 2800MB/s and 2000MB/s for these metrics. The S660 4TB, by contrast, reached reads of 5,057MB/s – not bad – but writes of just 406MB/s, which is atrocious for an SSD. Serve the Home achieved these results on CrystalDiskMark. During gameplay, games seldom write to your storage device. However, game files are written to your storage device during installation and game patches.
