About this deal

I added a wood lacquer coating for better protection against accidental scratches... they look a bit darker now but I like it this way. I will post some photos after I find ideal headband cover. They aren’t very heavy either weighing in at 385 grams, which is only 55 grams heavier than Sennheiser's HD800 and 165 grams lighter than the Audeze LCD 2. This is a sentiment that I agree with as the Denon D5000, for many years, was the flagship headphone amongst my collection. Released in 2012, at the time they were unparalleled in terms of comfort and quality.

I could go on, audition them if you get a chance. They are actually very difficult to fault anywhere to be honest. This can leaks some sound but it offers great passive isolation, shutting out quite a bit of external noise. However, you’d be hard-pressed to find more comfortable headphones of this kind. The Denon headphones are definitely worth auditioning. Despite only being supplied with a 6.35mm cable, the AH-D7200 is surprisingly easy to drive, and they don't require heavy amplification. Using an adapter, even a humble smartphone can drive the headphone to sufficient levels. It would have been nice to see an option of a 3.5mm cable included as well, for some added flexibility.A reference-class design with sophisticated driver tech and sumptuous comfort, HFC auditions this plush headphone AH-D7200 has a 6.3mm Single Ended connector o their long cable, so it is recommended to pair them with desktop DAC/AMPs like Singxer SDA-2, Soundaware A1X PRO, Rebel Audio Rebel AMP, or the AAdac from Audio Analogue. Anyway, please try them, tweak them, improve them and do not forget to share it. See if you turn these settings ON / OFF how much difference that makes. According this thread, the sound can be improved by some custom work / modding but me personally I would not go this way. On the other side, I would love to compare the original sound with the modded one. They are some good articles in this thread on how to do this. Denon also brings over its FreeEdge driver technology to the D7200. It features a 50mm unit with a nanofiber diaphragm for low rigidity and mass. The signal is produced from the driver with a piston-like accuracy, minimizing distortion. Soundstage

The 2nd EQ I am sharing here is my own after few days of playing with settings and trying them on different genres of music and sound. The idea behind it is to make them sound less dark, open them up little bit and make them sound close to the flagship the D9200. I am sure you can achieve even better sound if you havent already. In that case please DO SHARE your EQ settings with us. If you try these settings I created and then try to turn OFF / ON the EQ you will see the quite pleasant difference. Its like somebody opens them up, I like this result a lot. But again please somebody improve this further I would be very interested. So I’ve not really had many Denon cans, I’ve had more Fostex cans. Just didn’t happen but I’m so glad and pleased I got these beauties.

Listening to more vocal-focused material, the warm-tones of the guitar and bass in the lower end are perfect on Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours, however, I can detect the occasional touch of harshness in higher frequencies at times. Toto’s Africa is a fairly mellow eighties recording and sounds brilliant with the Denon delicately reproducing each instrument with clarity and nicely controlled bass. Rivals do offer a more transparent and accurate performance, though, which stops the Denon flagship headphones from reaching full five stars. There’s a smoothness to the Denon AH-D7200s’ sound that will leave you listening for hours without getting fatigued. That smoothness does come at the expense of total transparency and punch, but it’s a balance we can imagine many getting along with. Mids and vocals are also very good but I would personally like a little more meat to the mids and a little more body to voices. Not only a personal favourite of mine, the Denon D2000/5000/7000 had a loyal fanbase that worshipped them. There were even a few successful businesses that exclusively carried out modifications and upgrades to them. With the AH D7200, Denon brings a similar design from its previous model and expands on its depth. There are more inconsistencies with the sound signature, especially in the mids, but it shines with its extension and more immediate grasp on the sound. I’m not certain this is a substantial upgrade from the D5200, but it will definitely be one to choose for its level of intricate layering and textured response. Pros The unique FreeEdge drivers that are included in the AH-D7200 headphones are 50mm in diameter and are made out of nano-fibre material that has been chosen for its rigidity and low mass. These drivers help to deliver an accurate pistonic motion that will not create any distortion. The drivers are also self-damping, which means they are able to cancel out any unwanted resonances within the diaphragm, allowing for only the best sound reproduction. Mounted in a soft and compliant surround, the FreeEdge drivers are able to move easily in response to the music signal, with no flexing or distortion.

If the clamping force is too much for you try to stretch them over night over some box. It ease up the clamping force a bit. I am also considering ZMF Pilot Pad but I can see its a bit too wide and I might have to fill it in with something to make it more wider. The lows on the AH-D7200 are exceptional. It has rumble, sub bass and superb depth and extension. The impact and slam of the bass is excellent, I don’t find it overpowering the other frequencies. Full sounding with great speed too, that is hard to find. There’s plenty to love about Denon’s mellifluous tone. In fact, you may prefer this balance if you’re after long, comfortable listening sessions.

Denon’s engineers designed this new model from the ground up, with two goals in mind: supreme sound quality, and ultimate comfort.
