These results are seriously impressive for a gaming laptop. In fact, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another that can match for it for both power and battery life. Why buy the Dell G3 15? Dell offers a wide range of configurations for this laptop’s RAM. You can buy Dell G3 15 3579 with a RAM capacity ranging from 4 GB up to 32 GB DDR4. of memory isn’t too surprising at this price point, even if 16GB would be ideal. A mere 256GB of storage for a gaming laptop is really pushing it, though, as only a few leading-edge AAA games and your personal files would fill that up fast. Even just through the course of setting up the benchmark software and a few test games, I had to remove some as I went to make room for the next batch. Game installs are much bigger than they used to be, and often get bloated by updates, so being squeezed into 256GB is limiting on day one. I’d recommend bumping the capacity to 512GB if you can afford it. In terms of build quality, the Dell G3 15 3579 is entirely built with plastic. However, despite its plastic build, the Dell G3 15 3579 feels slightly heavy. Like its processor and storage, Dell offers a range of configurations for this laptop’s graphics card. The only real hurdle was Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, an infamously challenging game. At Ultra, the G3 struggled to rise passed 25 FPS, and even with the settings lowered to High, it managed a barely-playable 34 FPS. In demanding games like this, you’ll want to move up to the GTX 1060 for smoother gameplay. Better battery life, but still not great In Alienware Command Center (more on that below), I was able to tune the speakers a bit, and the music preset did bring the drums out a bit more than the default settings.

The strength of the processor is revealing in real-world usage. We encoded a 4K video in Handbrake on the Dell G3 in just three minutes and thirty seconds. At its Computex 2019 keynote in May, Dell unveiled the second generation of its affordable G3 15 series gaming laptop, and I was there to give it a try. Dell already offers the very best in portable gaming with its high-end Alienware sub-brand but, more recently, it’s been reaching out to the budget gaming market with its G3, G5 and G7 ranges. The Dell G3 15 is the most affordable of the lot and, while we weren’t too impressed with the first G3 15, this follow-up shows a great deal of promise. measures relative graphics muscle by rendering sequences of highly detailed, gaming-style 3D graphics that emphasize particles and lighting. We run two different 3DMark subtests, Sky Diver and Fire Strike, which are suited to different types of systems. Both are DirectX 11 benchmarks, but Sky Diver is more suited to midrange PCs with integrated graphics, while Fire Strike is more demanding and lets high-end and gaming PCs strut their stuff. The results are proprietary scores.How has Dell got away with building such a specced-up machine for just shy of a grand? They’ve had to cut a few corners. Screen quality in particular has suffered on the altar of compromise. But considering how low the price is, the Dell G3 is still a very good deal for on-the-go gaming. If you’re an enthusiast, missing out on 60fps on maximum settings may be disappointing, but you can’t necessarily expect that in this price range. The medium-quality settings show that you can dial down some bells and whistles to achieve better than 60fps, though, which is an acceptable solution for a budget machine.

Therefore, I can only rate it a seven in this review. Dell G3 15 3579 Processor (CPU) Performance Review Despite having a great score of 6509K for Visual Colour Temperature, the Dell G3’s display still looks rather warm when compared to other laptops. This isn’t helped by the dismal colour range, with just 51.8% of sRGB colour gamut. The Dell G3 is just not designed for image or video editing, being unable to reproduce colours accurately enough to be a worthwhile asset for such creative work. If you haven’t seen the Dell G3 15 3579 before, I can bet you have a completely wrong pictorial imagination of the laptop. The Dell G3 15 3579 doesn’t look like most modern gaming laptops. All three configurations come with a dedicated VRAM to boost the GPU performance. GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti GPU come with a 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM while the Max-Q GPU comes with a 6 GB GDRR5 VRAM. On a CrystalDiskMark test, the Dell G3 15 3579 offered a sequential read speed of 107.2 MBps and a sequential write speed of 53.5 MBps. Furthermore, the Dell G3 15 3579 copied a 4.97 GB multimedia file in 42 seconds at a very slow rate of 121 MBps.The keyboard itself is one of the best parts of the laptop. It has good spacing between its keys and it is very comfortable for typing. The weakest point on the Dell G3 15 is the display. The 13.3-inch FHD screen just isn’t as vivid as its competitors. When I watched the trailer for Charlie’s Angels, colors from orange explosions, green dresses and blue lights outside of a museum all looked kind of muted. When I played Control, too, colors like Jesse Faden’s red hair were bland. On our Handbrake video editing test, in which laptops convert a 4K video to 1080p, the Dell took 14 minutes and 1 seconds, coming ahead of the average (15:52) and the Nitro 5.
