About this deal

One of our personal favourites and bestselling authors, sweeping stories of love and families spanning continents and decades’ The Times But dark shadows are gathering once more, as the financial markets start to shake. And everything that felt so certain is thrown once again into doubt. Medan den yngre generationen börjar ta över, lever de tidigare fortfarande fast i den gamla förbannelsen över släkten Deverill. Ska de någonsin få vila i frid? It is 1925 and the war is long over. But much has been lost and life will never truly be the same again.

The End of the World As We Know It - Goodreads

In 1998, she married Simon Sebag Montefiore the writer and historian in a Jewish wedding. They met through historian Andrew Roberts, who believed they were made for each other, given that of all the people he knew, they were the only two that could recite the Evita by heart. Santa Montefiore believes that they complete each other even as they are so different. Simon is more of a philosophical man with no interest for the outdoors, while Santa has always been enchanted by the outdoors and never saw herself settling with a man who could not even contemplate skiing. They now write from the same house with Santa on the top floor and Simon on the ground floor. Just like his wife, Simon is a critically acclaimed writer with his historical novels such as Jerusalem, Young Stalin, and the Court of Red Star receiving some of the highest accolades in the literary world. Besides being the sister to the socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, the couple is also fast friends with the Queen of Netherlands Maxima, Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince of Wales. Montefiore lives in London with her husband and two children, Sasha and Lily, but the family also frequents a cottage in the Hampshire countryside where she grew up. Her house, which features on many of her novels, is a seventeenth century farmhouse with lovely ancient bluebell trees and stunning gardens that burst into a blaze of color during spring. If you are a fan of family saga type books you will love this series. It's a touch of Downton Abbey along with rural hard living families spanning a time period of 1925 to 1938 (book 2).

Daughters of Castle Deverill : Montefiore, Santa, 1970 Daughters of Castle Deverill : Montefiore, Santa, 1970

This is Santa Montefiore at her best - an enchanting read overflowing with deliciously poignant moments. If you love a heartfelt, epic trilogy this is for you. I loved it and can't wait for more' -- Dinah Jefferies, author of The Tea Planter's Wife, on Songs of Love and War En esta ocasión es Celia quien roba mas protagonismo, como lo hizo Kitty en Canciones de amor y guerra, todos lo personajes muestran un grado de evolución maravillosa, pero es Celia quien después de que se tenga que enfrentar a tiempos difíciles, encontrara la fuera de los Deverill para salir a flote. We begin this sequel in 1939 with Martha Wallace who is coming from America to find her birth mother. Martha was adopted as an infant and went to America with her happy parents. What secrets she will discover. This second book has me screaming for more. So many story lines weaving together, leaving the reader with great anticipation about what happens next. The main characters are all about to collide and I expect many fireworks in book three. Why would I want to listen to a book when I love to read? I was pleasantly surprised. I just loved to hear the voices of this epic tale.It was a delight to hear this story with Irish accents. This is the third novel of the Deverill Chronicles. This saga actually begins in 1600’s when Maggie O’Leary puts a curse on the Deverills. Apparently the Deverill’s decided to build a castle on O’Leary land. It is 1925 and Castle Deverill has burned to the ground. War and deception have divided the daughters of Ireland, but Celia vows to return her ancestral home to its former glory. Kitty raises a young family but longs for something more, and Bridie flourishes as a New York socialite consumed by revenge. Celia works to reunite her childhood friends and restore the place they once called home, but soon everything she knows is cast into doubt as the Great Depression looms. My particularly favourite character is Kitty. Strong, determined and willful she is in the center of all the exploits. Reading this novel I became in tune with Kitty and her feelings, following a young girl growing up and doing what is right for the greater good rather than for what one wants. This became heartbreaking at times but as the novel comes full circle you understand why the decisions she makes are detrimental to those around her. Somewhere in this is a life lesson.
