About this deal

Her book I Will Not Ever Never Eat A Tomato won the 2000 Kate Greenaway Medal. For the 50th anniversary of the Medal (1955–2005), a panel named it one of the top ten winning works, which comprised the shortlist for a public vote for the nation's favourite. It finished third in the public vote from that shortlist. Clarice’s voice is that of a perceptive and astute child who comments with deadpan humour on the goings-on around her, highlighting the ridiculousness of adult behaviour, as well as the adolescent shenanigans of her older brother and sister, and the sheer irritation of little Minal. Clarice’s comical yet shrewd articulation of the child’s perspective can be compared with the work of Roald Dahl, who always empathised with the child’s experience of life and exposed adult unfairness and hypocrisy:

Clarice Bean series - Wikipedia

She studied Art at Manchester Polytechnic and London Art School, after which she worked in a variety of jobs, including assistant to Damien Hirst. She also started her own company, 'Chandeliers for the People', making exotic lampshades. Lauren Child MBE is an English author and illustrator. She was the UK Children's Laureate from 2017-19. There are many funny scenes where things go terribly wrong and it is hilarious! They get a huge tree that is way too big for their house. The turkey is accidentally dropped on the floor and then eaten by a mysterious dog or fox. Clarice Bean tries to make fudge, but it is a hazardous undertaking. This whole book is so funny! My Uncle is a Hunkle, Says Clarice Bean - picture book - Clarice's parents have gone away and she is looked after by her Uncle. Years of failure had taught me a lot. Even though every single publisher was saying “no”, I recognised from all the previous years of “no’s” that there was a difference – they were saying “no” but they slightly wanted to say “yes!” I could also see that compared to anything I had done before this was not bad – nothing about it was making me actually squirm Both " Clarice Bean,That's Me" and "What Planet Are You From, Clarice Bean?" were bronze medal winners of the Smarties Prize, in the 6–8 years category, in 1999, and in 2001, respectively. The latter won the Kids Club category.

[2] [a] "Clarice Bean Spells Trouble" made the shortlists for both the British Children's Book of the Year and the Red House Children's Book Award. The writing does such a good job of letting us see things from Clarice Bean's perspective, and it really captures her childish voice.
