About this deal

The diversity of the characters is great (the main character is a biracial gay girl), but there are a few things that bothered me: Thompson, Sophie (19 October 2022). " 'Out by Christmas': Keir Starmer makes hilarious swipe at Liz Truss' new 'book title' ". Indy100. The Independent . Retrieved 20 October 2022. This book has some really great diversity and representation of very underrepresented populations, but otherwise it was super-duper meh for me. Very predictable. Very kind of nonsensical and strange in the ways its characters operated.

Liz Truss became prime minister on 6 September 2022, following the resignation of Boris Johnson and her victory over Rishi Sunak in the Conservative leadership election. Two days later, The Guardian reported HarperCollins's intention to publish Out of the Blue: The Inside Story of Liz Truss and Her Astonishing Rise to Power, to be written by Harry Cole, the politics editor at The Sun, and James Heale, the diary editor at The Spectator, with a planned publication date of 8 December. [1] While the publication is not an authorised biography, Andrew Anthony with The Guardian speculates that Truss was the source for a substantial amount of the book's information. According to Anthony, this might be due to Truss's frequent rumoured media leaks to Cole. [2] I cannot describe how much I loved that all merfolk inherently use they/them pronouns - that's such a wonderful idea and led to very important discussions about gender identities. I did want a little more between Sophie and her family, especially her sister, as that seems a little forced. Having said that, it’s a relatively wide age gap, so I do sort of get it. But I think that there was room to expand a little there. And I want to know what happens next!! Not in a sequel way, but just in terms of everything in their lives 😂😂😂 It's always hard to give a bad review to an author whose previous book I really like. But sadly, Out of the Blue was a massive disappointment for me, and I had to struggle to finish its last part. When I first heard about Out of the Blue, all I was hearing about was ‘fallen angels’ and ‘f/f’ romance so it was easy to jump to the conclusion that there were sapphic angels! There isn’t, but the relationship between Allie (who is disabled and bisexual), and Jaya (who is Sri Lankan and a lesbian) was lovely and heartwarming. And it is a huge part of the book so no need to worry about that. With her manic eagerness, cheap publicity stunts, fixed stare looking somewhere over the horizon, and GCSE level political fixed ideas, she could be a parody of Reese Witherspoon’s character from the movie Election. Unfortunately, she is a real politician, who, in her short premiership, succeeded in damaging the economy and the status of the country. It’s hard to imagine that there is much appetite for knowing more about Truss. Even her most ardent supporters could probably do with knowing a little less. But here it is, nonetheless, a 300-leaved lettuce that was past its sell-by date before it reached the shelves. Truss maintains she is interested in outcome, not process. Seldom has a prime minister been more wrong about herself This book just was so wonderful, it immediately became one of my favorite ever. It's just pure honeyed poetry with lovely imagery, but it's also raw and brutal, reflecting the cruel reality and the small windows we have to escape it from time to time. Honestly, I haven't been that emotional about a book for a long time, but this one definitely pulled all my heartstrings and I ended up tearing up several times, especially at the end. It was just too wonderful , too well-written. I definitely recommend it to anyone, it's just a beautiful, beautiful journey!! Crest/Ross is the former mer who hates human and views them as "self-centered, narcissistic blowholes" and spends the first half of the book whining about being on land.

An intriguing premise -- mer must spend a month on land and perform a selfless act before returning to the ocean -- is boosted by the diversity Jason June crafts, but ultimately falls flat due to one-dimensional characters who have little outside their lust-plot to make them relatable. What I did like mostly does revolve around representation. It's really nice to see not only a whole society of people without a gender binary, but also a love interest happily using they/them pronouns and no one flinching. It's also nice to see a larger main character and love interest, and never have body image become a barrier. a b Bell, Joanna; Griffiths, Robbie (19 October 2022). "Upcoming Liz Truss biography gets a name change to reflect her woes". Evening Standard. Archived from the original on 20 October 2022 . Retrieved 20 October 2022. Obliviousness isn’t always a blessing in politics however, as becomes clear in her first job as early years minister under David Cameron. Truss had hatched a plan to cut childcare costs by slashing the number of adults required to supervise children, which unsurprisingly proved controversial. Instead of patiently trying to build public and political support for it, she simply put her head down and charged – much as she would a decade later with her mini-budget, and about as successfully. All young politicians make mistakes. What’s unusual about Truss is that the lesson she seemingly took from hers was to believe in herself even more, and listen to others even less. Claims of Truss’s affair with an aide and that there’s a sex tape in circulation are left strangely hangingWell, literally every character in this book is so well written you will want to hug them at some point of the book. I mean, I even wanted to hug that plum-color-dressed side character and tell her all will be fine and there's nothing to worry about. Not to mention Jaya with her quiet exploration of her own mourning, Rani with her fixation over angels so she can find something to cling to when everything else seems to be falling apart, their father who seems to be too tired of questioning life, death, and God on every step so he can prove his family he's worth it so they know not all is lost. And there are Alli and Calum with their own fight with life and love-and-hate relationship only siblings have. Heale tweeted in response: "Your copy is in the post, thanks @Keir_Starmer". [12] Private Eye accused Starmer of stealing the joke from the issue they had published that day, which referred to Out of the Blue as "Due out on 8 December. (The book, that is. Not its subject.)". [13] So there is so much to love about this book! I love the concept. I so want to know more about it all but actually feel that what we get is perfect. But will this is obviously a book about angels falling from the sky, this is also a book about relationships - family and romantic. I loved all elements of them.
