According to the theory, there are two primary outcomes of comparing ourselves against our standards of correctness: To material sense we have TWO new aspects of experience. The LIGHT we see by is one, and the THINGS the light shines ON that enables us to see is another. In spiritual realization, we have THREE aspects of experience that are actually the one I of self-complete existence: we (the seer), the light we see by, and the objects we see. All "three" are the one presence of Awareness Itself, objectively sensed. It is our objective sense that makes oneness appear to be (in this example) three aspects of experience. Take the VIA Strengths survey, or other personality self-assessments like Meyers-Briggs. Becoming aware of one’s strengths gives the capability to intentionally make them grow. Another advantage of practicing introspection is the expansion of the ability for personal development. When you are in tune with your thoughts, new ones are created. New and creative ideas will thrive in an individual whose mind is clear and focused on birthing the new.

Indeed, a program intended to enhance self-awareness (among other things) through yoga and meditation resulted in a range of improvements, including more positive affect, less stress, greater mindfulness, enhanced resilience, and even greater job satisfaction (Trent et al., 2019). You can also reflect on your standards themselves to see if they are good ones for you to hold yourself to. You can try writing in a journal, talking out loud, or simply sitting quietly and thinking, whatever helps you to reflect on yourself. 4. Journal Monique considers her thought processes when Luis misses an opportunity to make her feel loved and notes that she assumes he purposely avoids doing things that she likes. She spends time thinking and talking with Luis about how they want to show and receive love, and they begin to work on improving their relationship. Self-awareness isn’t just for managers and employees; it can also substantially benefit students, children, and adolescents. The same benefits that make us more productive in the workplace can make students more productive in the classroom and at home: better communication with teachers and peers, more confidence, and more satisfaction with performance can all lead to happier, healthier students.

Five benefits of being more self-aware at work

You are Awareness Itself individually and uniquely aware as "you." You are individual God being. The pure awareness you are is the one universe you experience. Awareness and form are one. Awareness is what you ARE, what you see WITH, and that which is SEEN. So, when I say "keep attention on Awareness Itself" it is the same as saying "keep attention on the LIGHT ITSELF", rather than on "you" and the "things" the light shines ON. In 2010, a particular area of the brain was identified as connected to the practice of introspection. Geraint Rees et al. reported on findings at the University of London, that an area of the pre-frontal cortex (directly behind the eyes) had greater areas of grey and white matter in individuals with higher proficiency in introspection. Mengers, A. A. (2014). The benefits of being yourself: An examination of authenticity, uniqueness, and well-being. In the second stage of awareness, one becomes aware of one’s thoughts, emotions, sensory experiences and, of being mindful.

Take time daily to look at yourself as objectively as possible. It allows for weakness to be recognized and improved upon. All humans need improvement, and reflecting on our own performance gives us the opportunity to learn from mistakes and missteps. Rupert Spira takes the essence of awareness of awareness and puts it into words in a way that leads the reader to grasp its nature without having had the experience. This has helped me in better understanding how to meditate along the direct path. This book also has so clearly and touchingly described the source of our longing for things and relationships...a longing that in my life has been a source of disappointment and anguish. Even simpler: you ARE, and your entire world IS, the one incorporeal Awareness Itself (God), the absolute silence of being, simply BEING aware as all perfection of existence. Just as all there is to the waves and currents is the movement or activity of the ocean, so all there is to the mind is the motion or activity of awareness."

People rely more on their introspection when self-evaluating than their own behavior. The bottom line is that no matter how clear one’s thinking is, there is always room for improvement where goal attainment and objectivity are concerned.
