Mesh panels for ventilation: On a hot summer day, you’ll be thankful for all the ventilation you can get. Usually you’ll need to buy a different mesh version of a carrier, but LÍLLÉbaby makes their All Seasons version with a zip-off panel.The organic cotton Manduca XT is very similar in fit and function, and is suitable from 1 month to roughly 3 years (max weight 44lbs/20kg). The main difference is one of size and complexity! The Beco Gemini is both smaller and simpler. It doesn't have lots of features and extra bits and bobs. Consequently it is, cheaper and folds down a lot smaller. Particularly the "cool" version which is made from thinner material and folds up into a very compact bundle. Because it is so lightweight it doesn't feel bulky to use with a small baby, and so generally even though the 8 works well with a newborn, the Gemini is still often the one the feels more natural with smaller babies. The smaller panel means they don't look as overwhelmed, you don't need to use an insert and it just seems to mould to smaller form better. The smaller panel does mean, however, that most children grow out of it somewhere between 18 and 24 months. At least 6 months before they'd grow out of the 8. But many parents aren't still carrying regularly at that point anyway and those that are are often more than happy to move onto the Beco Toddler. Consequently the Beco Gemini tends to the sling of choice for the minimalists - those who want a comfortable carrier that is very simple, and folds down tiny.
As parents, we’ve followed the developments in babywearing with great interest. Most of us have been fairly satisfied with carriers for specific uses, but frustrated by limitations and complexities. For example, we loved the velcro tabs for adjusting the seat width of the Ergobaby – Omni 360, but really didn’t like fumbling with the extra-large buttons to change other flaps. LÍLLÉbaby is also the only soft-structured carrier manufacturer that offers baby carrier stirrups if you really want to test your limits. Stirrups shift the weight of an older child’s legs from your shoulders to your hips, which can make a big difference on a hike.
These Best Baby Wraps are theoretically safe to use with a toddler, but realistically by about 3-4 months, a non-stretchy carrier will be more supportive for your heavier, wiggly baby. If you find that a blanket is too difficult to keep in place when you’re carrying a smaller newborn, Lillebaby also sells a pillow insert that will help you get the perfect position. Stretchy baby wraps are perfect for newborns and premature babies. Incredibly supportive and dreamily soft, all of these baby wraps are one-size-fits-all and perfect for mums and dads. Simply tie the baby wrap around your body and pop your baby in and out as needed. But, as many families will start to outgrow their baby carriers before their child is two, my next 3 recommendations are for more adjustable ‘in- between’ size carriers.

This carrier’s predominant feature is its SoftFlex Mesh makeup, which is a mesh-like polyester weave that allows for extra breathability for the baby and the caregiver. While I tested this in the winter and didn’t need extra venting, it did make for a distinctly non-sweaty experience, even indoors (which is not always the case when you have a baby pressed directly up against your body). And during a long day at the airport wearing a sweaty baby, I especially appreciated the breathability. The mesh also makes the carrier quite lightweight (just over 2 pounds). The polyester material was easy to wipe down after spit-ups and blowouts, and the Omni Breeze stood up well to a machine wash: It air-dried within about 12 hours, which was faster than the other carriers I tested. Functional Add-Ons And Plenty Of Adjustability The Easy Feel Extend Plus is a generously padded carrier, ideal from 2 years (though you can cinch it down to use from 18months) to 7 years+ with a weight limit of 29kg (54lbs). I often tell parents it’s best to choose a baby carrier or sling for everyday use, then work out how to feed in it – rather than the other way round.
