About this deal

How does one navigate these issues while both attempting to do good business (because their project is important and can have positive effects on the community at large) and calling out problematic people/ideas? This blog, written by a number of well-groomed project management professionals, provides information on multiple aspects of project management including basic concepts, project planning, reporting, issue resolution, risk management, data visualization, new trends in project management and a lot more. I have mentioned to my boss that this doesn’t feel safe for me and that I’d prefer not to go if that’s possible, but she laughs it off like it’s some rite of passage that everyone must endure. I am fine with training in leadership, and I understand that, as an introvert, I will likely not enjoy any meeting with a bunch of team-building activities, but this is not merely discomfort I’m worried about. Based on his knowledge, he tries to impart information in a way that focuses on prevailing frameworks and models, focusing on different elements especially related to Agile, all the while giving an insight to ideas and discussions by other authors and project managers. 13. I work with a team of part-time, developing employees (think student workers or interns). While I’m not technically their manager, I am senior to them and often delegate tasks to this team. I know that part of their role is learning the norms and etiquette of the workplace, so I try to give guidance and be understanding when giving corrections. The nature of my job is that I often need periods of focus, so I’ve been working on creating assignments and areas of responsibility for each intern to develop more self-directed work habits.

Do managers benefit from conversations with employees?

I think this was the right thing to do, and the conversation went well. My mum thinks I’ve killed any chance of getting high-profile assignments or promotion in the future by giving them a reason to doubt my ability to cope and that I should’ve kept quiet and faked a stomach bug if I needed to slow down. Who’s right? Is mental health awareness still so dire in the modern workplace that I’m likely to have damaged my reputation by admitting I suffer from a mental illness? But you’re right to worry that how you do it can have the effect of normalizing behavior that shouldn’t be normalized.

Not sure how best to match people up. The idea of ensuring that mentors aren’t spending energy they don’t have helping people who already are better positioned in society made intuitive sense, but that’s all. A privileged person could mentor a marginalized person. A better question is, whose cup is likeliest to be full enough? Nifty is an excellent project management blog that gives you comprehensive insights into project management, scrum, and agile processes. It also provides you with useful information about topics such as product roadmaps and how to increase productivity at work. It’s an all-in-one hub for everything related to project management. Conclusion I’ve generally worked places where people like to dress up in costumes for Halloween, and sometimes I’ve wondered if I’m being too uptight or if my coworkers just have terrible judgment. I’ve seen people wear costumes that show a ton of skin (something I might wear to a bar but not to the office), costumes that seem insensitive to outright racist (like costumes based on cultural stereotypes), and costumes that just seem impractical (a guy I once worked with kept a full-body gorilla suit on the whole day, and it was not easy to hear him talk through it). I’d think my employers would have laid out guidelines for costumes but they never did! So what are the right guidelines for Halloween costumes at work? I’m worried now that this is becoming “a whole thing”! My colleagues are incredible people and I truly have no ill will towards them whatsoever, but am left with two questions I hope you can help me with:

First, all of this is great advice and what I’m about to say doesn’t mean to discount that. I also realize that I’m going to get lumped in with the recent #notallmanagers LW (for whom I had a lot of sympathy, if I’m being totally honest).

As one of the few women in leadership in a very male-dominated industry, I’m used to weirdness in my relationships with male bosses. Typically, they will take credit for my work, or publicly treat me like a secretary or assistant while privately relying on me to do the majority of their role. My current boss has never done anything like this, although he often seeks my advice. It’s probably one of the healthier and more functional working relationships I’ve ever had with a manager. Finding Marbles should be the next project management blog on your list. It’s a blog owned by an Agile and Lean expert, among her many other achievements, Corinna Baldauf. She shares her real-life stories and experiences to help project managers find solutions for their problems. Hence, the name – Finding Marbles. This reads to me like your company has a dysfunctional internship program, LW either got this unwillingly dumped on her or stepped up out of a sense of responsibility, but she resents the everliving f__k out of having been put in this position of having to take up more unpaid labor on top of her actual job. Use its powerful search tool to look for an article and find resources that fit your need to become one of the top project managers in your field. 20. The IIL Blog I didn’t see your comment before I posted mine a few minutes ago, sorry if I was beating a dead horse! I used to manage interns and I know it can be difficult (on both sides) to use their time effectively.
