About this deal

The nursery unit has a infrared LEDs built in so you can seamlessly switch to night view and still see your child without disturbing them with nursery lights. Movement Sensor Without further ado, here’s my take on the best baby monitors that I’ve tried and tested, starting with my favourite audio models, and then video.

Angelcare 3-in-1 AC527 Baby Monitor, with Movement Tracking Angelcare 3-in-1 AC527 Baby Monitor, with Movement Tracking

As with the Angelcare movement monitors, the movement sensor requires a hard base under the cot’s mattress, so I used my trusty piece of plywood. However, unlike Angelcare’s wireless movement sensors, this movement pad has a wire which connects to the baby monitor. So as well as plugging the baby monitor into the mains, you have to plug the movement pad into the baby monitor. If you mute the volume on the parent unit, it still does a good job of alerting you to your baby crying. Whenever there is a sound, a subtle green light glows at the top of the monitor. If the baby cries, the parent unit beeps and the text ‘Crying Alert’ appears on screen. If the crying is particularly loud then the green light turns red. Finally, a word of warning. If you buy a monitor, always remember when its switched on that you can be heard in baby’s room. You don’t want to be those parents who carp about your guests whilst putting your baby to bed and then rejoin the party to find a room full of hurt and offended guests who’ve listened to every word of your private conversation broadcast over the monitor. Ouch. The Nursery Angel unit plays sweet lullabies which again, can be controlled through your handset. Extra Features:

Angelcare have been market leader for the last 15 years and have proved time and time again that they produce well designed and effective baby products. They are the first to combine all three types of baby monitor into one product. The video quality is usually excellent, but sometimes there are moments when it is not perfect and a little grainy. Not always, and usually, the picture is absolutely fine. Why we like it: Reliable quality audio monitor which is easy to use and has some nice extra features The VTech parent unit has a large 5-inch screen like the BT video monitor, displaying a comparable picture quality. It’s really simple to use with clearly marked buttons and a menu which is easy to navigate. The camera pans up and down and from side to side and allows you to zoom in. It also comes with an optional wide-angle lens which easily clips on to the front of the camera. The cute little halo on the nursery Angel unit it also a night light, which glows with a delicate and soothing blue colour. This can be controlled through the parent unit.

Angelcare 3-in-1 AC527 Baby Monitor, with Breathing Movements Angelcare 3-in-1 AC527 Baby Monitor, with Breathing Movements

The screen doesn’t automatically come on whenever there is a sound – you have to press a button for the screen to give you a view of your baby. That might be a welcome feature, depending on your point of view. There’s no option to continuously watch your baby; the screen only stays on for one minute before shutting off again. This clever baby monitor has all the gadgets you could need, including movement sensors, a colour touch screen, two-way communication and a temperature display. We like the option to rotate and zoom the camera – a great feature if you’ve got twins. What they say: I loved this product and it has really made a positive difference to my parenting, which is saying something considering this is baby number four! The sense of reassurance it gives by combining audio, visual and movement is outstanding and we were amazed at the clarity of the video picture, even in total darkness.

More complicated than other simple models to set up. (If you have ever set any digital item up before though, you should be fine seriously.) The Angelcare AC1100 Digital Video, Movement and Sound Baby Monitor is an all singing all dancing video, sound and movement monitor that is fighting for the lead amongst the best baby monitors. I would definitely recommend this monitor to other mums! As a first-time mum myself, I was sure I wanted a video monitor and this one did not let me down. It is easy to use after the initial set up and the sensor mat that comes with the product is a real God send when it comes to putting your mind at ease. If you are looking for a leading product that does all of that and have are able to splurge on a high end baby product then the Angelcare AC1100 might be for you. Unfortunately it lost its connection occasionally during my testing. It sounded an alarm to alert me to this loss and flashed a red light to show that the link was broken. I switched the parent unit off and on again and it immediately reestablished connection, but I didn’t find it as reliable as those that appear above on this list.
