About this deal

In the book, January’s father Billy, in a fit of rage over discovering that he’s not the biological father of January or her brother, means to harm his wife, but injures his daughter instead. Look, I struggled even writing the blurb having now read the book. There are so many inconsistencies in this book and I know once again I am an outlier and have down rated this wildly popular novel. Also apparently Ashley Flowers is a hot shot Podcaster - well I have never listened to a podcast so I had no idea about this going in. 🤷‍♀️ Natalie Clark may have been the catalyst for Margot’s investigation but HER story is never explored, making this a journalist’s quest to solve a COLD CASE. All Good People Here has enough twists and layers for three novels. Ashley Flowers has taken a premise familiar to true-crime fans and created a story that’s compelling and psychologically rich, with an ending that’s as unnerving as it is satisfying.” —Lou Berney

This book will have you playing a guessing game all the way to the end! There were many surprises along the way, and none that I had figured out. I love how this story played out. Hmm…semi-satisfying -I was so close to love this book but that abrupt ending gave me second thoughts- review is coming up!According to a podcast I just listened to, the medical examiner in the Anthony case testified that 100% of the time, parents who find their kids accidentally injured call 911.

Yes, this aspect feels very similar to January’s case. This same person continued to write disturbing, threatening notes to young girls for almost fifteen years, until he was caught using forensic genealogy. Can you think of other true crime cases that Ashley references in the book? Tell me in comments! Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group/ Ballantine for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

Ok, I feel like it is tough to just review the book and not to mention the other bits that come to my mind when reading this, so I will use this opportunity to include that. This is so similar to JonBenet Ramsey's case. Too many similarities and possibly the writer pushing her agenda of what she thinks happened with that one.

How is the January Jacobs Case Similar to Other True Crime Cases, like the JonBenét Ramsey case? Character List for All Good People Here: As mentioned above, Casey Anthony‘s lawyer suggested that her father staged a fake crime after her daughter’s accidental drowning. But the police, the family, the townspeople—they all seem to be hiding something. And the deeper Margot digs into Natalie’s disappearance, the more resistance she encounters, and the colder January’s case feels. Could the killer still be out there? Could it be the same person who kidnapped Natalie? And what will it cost to finally discover what truly happened that night? Personally, I felt all the twists and turns were organic and made sense within this story. They feel earned and representative of how complicated real crime investigations are. The truth is rarely as simple as we would like it to be and All Good People Here reflects this beautifully. Small Town Secrets Although it IS NOT written in a podcast format, it unfortunately still mostly READS like one-with the exception of the sub-plot with Margot’s Uncle.

Contact

In general, I appreciated the entire cast of characters Ashley Flowers presents us with. She knows how to capture the essence of a character and make them feel real and compelling. I would happily read a whole series of novels about many of the characters we meet, they all seem so interesting! A Divisive Ending Ok debut, but sudden ending that totally felt unfinished. Didn’t really grab me, nothing really surprised me.
