About this deal

The main difference between all SD cards are the READ speed and storage size (32GB, 64GB, 128GB). U3 means the SD card has a minimum WRITE speed of 30MB/s as opposed to a U1 SD card which WRITES at a slower 10MB/s. READ speed isn’t too important when it comes to Dash Cams, as a Dash Cam WRITES data to the SD card when recording. Our Nextbase SD card controller and Firmware on the SD card achieves the requirements from our Dash Cam, where other SD cards cannot. Due to the continuous recording and overwriting of data, the SD card needs to be a high-endurance card, otherwise the card may develop faults after a period of time; if a lower-capability card is used, certain features on the camera will not fully function due to being unable to re-WRITE and record. Symptoms of a non-compatible or corrupted SD card can be freezing, audible alerts, missing footage, gaps in footage and non-functional screens/buttons, as well as more. A dash cam is a mountable camera that you can secure to your windshield or rearview mirror. It's important to go for a test drive after you attach one, just to make sure it doesn't obstruct your view and that it's easy to access. Most dash cams have built-in screens for changing settings and viewing videos (don't do this while you are driving), but others require you to pair them with a smartphone app. Parking protection to record what’s going on around your car can be a bonus, provided you don’t use it in an area where the sight of your dash cam is more likely to get your car broken in to and the dash cam stolen.

The Miofive isn’t quite perfect; it would be great if you could adjust the horizontal angle of the camera, not just the vertical tilt. All the same, it’s incredible value, and the best dash cam we’ve seen outside the Garmin and NextBase brands. Yes, absolutely. Some drivers might not like the idea of a camera constantly monitoring their vehicle, but some models of dash cam (like the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2) are compact and subtle enough to almost disappear behind the central rear view mirror. In other words, once they are up and running you soon forget about them; they just sit there, quietly keeping an eye out, ready to save footage if you’re caught in an accident.

To stop important clips from being overwritten, many of the best dash cams can automatically detect potential incidents and flag the relevant footage to protect it from deletion. Most models with loop recording also allow you to manually tag clips with the same effect, generally by way of a shortcut button on the body of the dash cam. How we test dash cams In parking mode, a dash cam will automatically start recording if it detects any impacts to your car, so you’ll be able to capture any car park bumps and scrapes or roadside vandalism. You don’t like wires: Three cameras means a lot of wires to guide and hide. Cabling in the rear camera means removing the headliner or carpet. Cheaper models may do away with extras such as a live-view screen. These are useful when you’re setting up the camera, but not essential once that’s done. What’s more, many dash cams are now designed to work in concert with a smartphone app, communicating via Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi. With these, you use your smartphone to position and adjust the camera, and you can even use the app to review and protect footage or even upload it to the cloud. Is a dual-camera dash cam worth it? There are also dash cams that boast additional features that, just like any other technology, translate to a higher asking price. In addition to better video quality like 4K, night vision and built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for easy file transfer may also be included.

Smart solutions for your daily needs | Nedis

A) Formatting your SD card wipes the SD card entirely to free up space for new recordings. Note: all our Dash Cams loop record which means the oldest footage is overwritten by the newest footage. However, after a while the SD needs formatting so it can keep doing this. You want a hidden dash cam: Compact dimensions mean the Mini 2 pretty much disappears behind your rear-view mirror, with no impact on forward visibility. So if you already own a GoPro, pairing it with a dashboard mount or windshield suction cup is an easy way to record video while you’re driving. We even have a dedicated guide on how to use a GoPro as a dash cam for your car. However, if you’re looking for a comprehensive solution to capture in-car video, it’s worth considering a dash cam. Are dash cams legal?

We look carefully at how easy it is to fit the dash cam and manage any trailing cables, plus how easily it can be removed from the car and transfer any video to a laptop for viewing or storage. Finally, we review the captured footage to see how it compares to the footage from dash cams we already recommend.
