I like how mysterious it is. I also like how it unravels information as you go on. I recommend this to people who like mysteries. I am looking forward to the next book. The engaging construction of magical time travel and Doyle's beautifully descriptive prose will enchant those looking for an atmospheric magical adventure. A story of death, magic and the afterlife told by Marinka, who is desperate not to follow in her grandmother’s footsteps and wants to find her own destiny. Loosely based on the Slavic myth of Baba Yaga, this story is delightfully macabre and utterly engrossing.I think this book is brilliant. The mysterious aspect is brilliant. As you go through the book, you learn more about the island and the Storm Keeper before a huge ending. I recommend this to anybody who enjoys slow-burning mysteries. I liked how it really got you thinking who was the Storm Keeper. I loved how Fionn and Tara’s relationship changed throughout the book. I started to get worried when their granddad got ill. I didn’t really understand the whole book until about chapter six. Overall, I thought the book was quite good and I would recommend it for keen Year 5 and 6 readers. I will definitely read the sequel. I would rate it 8/10. Fionn Boyle comes from a long line of brave seafarers, people with the ocean behind their eyes. But he can't help but fear the open sea. For years, Fionn's mother has told him stories of Arranmore Island, a strange place that seems to haunt her. Fionn has always wondered about this mysterious island, and from the day he arrives he starts noticing things that can't be explained. He can sense the island all around him, and it feels like the island is watching him, too. Irish legends collide with modern times in a fast-paced, magical tale about the ordinary becoming extraordinary. . . . A distinctive fantasy with depth, humor, and heart. But, deep underground, someone has been waiting for Fionn. As the battle to become the island's next champion rages, a more sinister magic is waking up, intent on rekindling an ancient war.I like how Tara goes missing. I like how it shows how the granddad becomes forgetful. Shelby is my favourite character. She is fun and happy but sad when she wants to be. I would like to see more of the story, maybe when Fionn is older and his children have adventures. I think nine- to 14-year-olds would like this. I rate it 10/10. The magic of Arranmore island is truly unique, as is the ability for Fionn and his grandfather to revisit different layers – or points in the island’s history – by burning candles made from previous Storm Keepers. Readers will be swept away by the setting and atmosphere of Arranmore as Fionn discovers its history and secrets, leading to a dramatic ending that will leave children clambering for book two. It’s Fionn’s first visit, and not only has Tara kept loads of information from Fionn, she abandons him with their grandfather pretty much from the moment they arrive. Left to himself, Fionn ends up learning more about the island and who his grandfather really is – the Storm Keeper whose role is to protect the island from a dark magic buried centuries ago.
