About this deal

I have been a Michael Ball fan for over thirty years, seen him in many shows and concerts, so when I saw he had written a book I had to read it. But I wanted to read it as if it was by someone I’ve never heard of. Not easy, but just decided I would read it on its own merits I would either like it hate it or live it. So which was it. Whilst I don't think it being written by such a well loved and respected all round entertainer {and reputedly one of the nicest people you could wish to meet} as Ball can do any harm, I genuinely thought The Empire a pleasant read.

The Empire – Michael Ball Fan Club

Honestly, I could say so much more, but I don’t want to spoil this for you. If you love war heroes, theatre, romance and drama, read The Empire. Michael’s debut novel, The Empire, was published in Autumn 2022, and his first-ever autobiography, Different Aspects, is out in October this year. The only downside for me was that it’ll always be remembered as the book I was reading when the Queen died. Much needed light relief at such a sad time.

Although I found this to be a well written and informative novel about the world of theatre it sadly left me feeling unmoved, failing to hold my interest and I will not be reading the sequel. Don’t let me put you off reading this though, as if you are a fan of Michael Ball and the world of theatre, it will probably appeal to you. I’m definitely keen to follow up more into this series though and hope there will be more to come! Now I know the characters it might make reading the next one a little easier!

It's the 1920s. Everywhere, people are still reeling from the after-effects of the war. In particular, the town of Highbridge and the fabulous folk trying to make the Empire theatre a success, despite sabotage and skullduggery Michael will be writing more books, making this into a series, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next for everyone! He ends up at the theatre looking for a job, which he gets. He is drawn into the world of the theatre and particularly the manager's assistant, Grace. Olivier Award winning West End star Michael Ball is set to tour the UK next year, including dates at the Eventim Apollo in London, Manchester’s O2 Apollo and Cardiff’s St David’s Hall.He also just happens to be the handsome romantic type, who starts out as the stage door man but in no time at all falls for the shy but lovely heroine and proves himself to be a budding impresario, who puts together a revue, led by a star hauled out of a fish and chip shop.

The Empire by Michael Ball - Fantastic Fiction

The Empire by Michael Ball is a charming, captivating, majestic, electrifying, exciting and dazzling masterpiece. I know I used a lot of adjectives here but this wonderful piece of work deserves all the praises in the whole wide world. This book is written by someone who obviously loves, and enjoys, working in the theatre. It is easy to read and is a warm comforting book, like a cosy blanket you enjoy curling up with. The characters are very realistic, everyone has a good and a bad side just like in life. I definitely recommend as an escapist, enjoyable read. Congratulations to the author and thanks to Bonnier Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview. The book is set in the 1920s and revolves around the Empire, a theatre whose future is in jeopardy.
