Hada = Elfo.

The blind was down; but outside the moon rose up out of the sea, and laid the silver path across the waters that is the way to places at the edge of the world and beyond, for those that can walk on it.” At the end comes an essay that Tolkien wrote called "On Fairy-stories", in which he wonders about the treatment given to this genre in general, which is not bad, but when it comes to the end it can get a little heavy. But it serves to see what the author thought of the people who qualified this literature as works for children, among other things. He was kindhearted, in a way. You know the sort of kind heart: it made him uncomfortable more often than it made him do anything; and even when he did anything, it did not prevent him from grumbling, losing his temper and swearing (mostly to himself).” Christina Scull& Wayne G. Hammond (2006a), The J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Volume I: Chronology, HarperCollins, p.673; ISBN 978-0-618-39113-4 There was a merry passenger, a messenger, a mariner: he built a gilded gondola to wander in, and had in her a load of yellow oranges and porridge for his provender; he perfumed her with marjoram and cardamon and lavender.” FAERIE is a perilous land, and in it are pitfalls for the unwary and dungeons for the overbold . . . The realm of fairy-story is wide and deep and high and filled with many things: all manner of beasts and birds are found there; shoreless seas and stars uncounted; beauty that is an enchantment, and an ever-present peril; both joy and sorrow as sharp as swords. In that realm a man may, perhaps, count himself fortunate to have wandered, but its very richness and strangeness tie the tongue of a traveller who would report them. And while he is there it is dangerous for him to ask too many questions, lest the gates should be shut and the keys be lost.

I enjoyed them all, Roverandom and Farmer Giles of Ham being my favorites! I enjoyed a lot of the poetry from The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (though some were harder to interpret than others), and I found Leaf by Niggle quite sad—though that’s not a bad thing. The inspiration for the upcoming original series on Prime Video, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. But the allegorical aspect of the story does not take away from the majesty of the story, Tolkien’s craft as a writer and imaginator, and a personal attachment to the story, no matter what Tolkien’s original aim may or may not have been. But more than that, there are beautiful characterisations that are absolutely Tolkienesque in nature. Characters that seem simple to begin with actually exhibit and explore larger personality stereotypes, all the while making it very clear what Tolkien thinks on the subject. There is nothing quite like reading Tolkien as he makes it very clear what he thinks of those who disparage the world of Faery and fantasy. His writing is so smart and clever, that the characters who portray this condescension and narrow point of view are often left looking very silly without ever knowing it, leaving the reader smiling in happy contempt. Farmer Giles of Ham is fat and unheroic, but – having unwittingly managed to scare off a short-sighted giant – is called upon to do battle when a dragon comes to town; Bet visą tą laiką Makaliukas Klajūnas laukė pasirodant paštininkės Klyksnės su naujienomis iš žemės (net maži šuniukai žino, kad tai dažniausiai žmogžudystės ir futbolo rungtynių rezultatai, bet kartais pasitaiko ir geresnių dalykų).” Shadow-bride": a shadowless man steals the shadow of a lady who comes near. The lady is thereafter forced to live underground, though one night a year she may come to the surface to dance with the man who took her shadow. [40]

Largely overlooked because of their short lengths, they are finally together in a volume which reaffirms Tolkien's place as a master storyteller for readers young and old. The Tolkien Reader is an anthology of works by J. R. R. Tolkien. It includes a variety of short stories, poems, a play and some non-fiction. It compiles material previously published as three separate shorter books ( Tree and Leaf, Farmer Giles of Ham, and The Adventures of Tom Bombadil), together with one additional piece and introductory material. It was published in 1966 by Ballantine Books in the USA.
