About this deal

The concept of magic is rather fascinating, our main character can see ghosts and there is this idea of mathemagics that blends magic with something more technical and logical, as well as seers, I also love how Charlie has some ghosts as real friends that are constantly there for him. These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she bare unto Jacob, even sixteen souls.

These are the sons of Zelpha, which Laban gave to his daughter Lea, who bore these to Jacob, sixteen souls. And even though Sam and Charlie will not see eye to eye at first, when ghosts start disappearing in York, they will have to work together to find how to stop this. Your debut novel Sixteen Souls was spotted by publisher Yasmin Morrissey at Scholastic after generating more than 250,000 TikTok views. Do you have any tips for writers who want to delve into the world of Bookstagram and BookTok but don’t know where to start? These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah—sixteen in all.The humans – Leone and Mitch, primarily – were once Charlie's friends, until they misunderstood his experience in a ghostly deathloop (reliving that person's death, with real physical consequences) as a suicide attempt. At first, you wonder about their motives and how they fit into the story, and you share Charlie's mistrust of them. But, just as Charlie does, their real motives and personalities are revealed in a way that allow us to see the situation through Charlie's eyes, with a new understanding. So why was this not 5 stars for me? I think it feels like I have read the story before. It didn’t feel all that different to city of ghosts, or the haunting of Adeline jones and unfortunately for me I read those first where if I hadn’t I might have loved this. The other thing was, because I was feeling like I was reading those other books while reading this I found myself getting confused about the age group that is being targeted. The teens in this read very young, but then they are swearing. I couldn’t always tell if I was reading YA or middle grade and so I found that a little jarring. I really had to think of what it was that caused my issue and this is the only reason I could come up with because as I said already ALL THE INGREDIENTS ARE GREAT! I am so sad I didn’t love this as much as I wanted to. Maybe I will try the second book as this was the authors debut so I am sure she may find her feet even more in the second. These were the sons of Zilpah, the servant given to Leah by her father, Laban. The number of Jacob’s descendants through Zilpah was sixteen.

Charlie reluctantly teams up with Sam Harrow – the new seer in town – and a rag-tag group of ghosts, to save their friends from a fate literally worse than death. This book is about Charlie who, unlike anyone else, can see ghosts – and touch ghosts, respectively can also be touched by ghosts. Which is kind of a problem because not all ghosts are nice persons. So Charlie keeps his head low and relies only on his few ghost friends. This changes when suddenly ghosts are missing, among them one of his closest friends, and he has to team up with Sam, another boy who can see ghosts. I am delighted to have contributed a terrifying tale to this spooky keep-you-up-all-night anthology of 13 chilling stories curated by authors Amy McCaw and Mia Kuzniar. Throughout the novel Charlie is also coming to terms with his sexuality – how crucial of a role was diversity and representation for you when you wrote the novel? What advice do you have for writers looking to incorporate supernatural and fantasy elements in their work?

These are the children of Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah; these she bore to Jacob—sixteen persons in all.

Mitchell’s decision will land the former military pilot in the cross-hairs of a viciously ambitious district attorney determined to send him to prison for doing his job. Despondent and deeply wounded by what he sees as betrayal by the system, Mitchell at first refuses to defend himself or even assist the corporate lawyer forced against her will to represent him.a really sweet story that reminded me of Cemetery Boys with a British twist, featuring a charmingly diverse cast and lots of ghosts Many of our students form writing support groups. Are you still in touch with any of your course mates? Sixteen-year-old Charlie Frith has problems. His crush is dating someone else, his sisters have glitter-bombed his prosthesis (again), and he's a seer-of-spirits in York, the most haunted city in England, and all his friends are ghosts. I have shared a few of Charlie's life experiences, and he was written with such sensitivity, clarity, and realism that it was easy to connect to him right from the beginning.
