About this deal

X800 is a 1 hour wonder product,I prefer X400 which is slower working product, had more success with X400 here, noticed an improvement with the radiators in a few hours, than with the X800. Before you decide to use citric acid be aware that unless its used very carefully it can expose weak sections of rads and cause them to leak!

If the rads are only 3 years old I doubt it's all that bad. Before you start with chemicals I'd use the mains to push out what you can. Connections are always an issue though, you have to work out where the water can go -( like throug hthe HW cylinder coil if you have a 3 port valve) that you don't want it to. In this scenario, your customer may struggle to understand how the system could possibly need cleaning. New systems can easily succumb to debris during and after installation as a result of carelessness in the manufacture and installation processes. There is unfortunately a problem that many installers charge the customer for a mag filter and then save their time by not doing any further cleaning. When using concentrate gel, add directly to the heating system either via a radiator air bleed valve, or via the fill loop using the appropriate adaptor and a suitable caulk gun.

I ham building up to having my boiler changed by taking some old rads off and flushing out all the sludge etc. I have just dosed the system with Sentinel X800 Jetflo and I was wondering how long I can leave this in the system. I realise that it will have done whatever it is going to do in a couple of days but is it OK to leave it in the system for a couple of months which is the earliest that the boiler will be changed? Or should I drain the system in a couplel of days, flush it and add inhibitor? What is the best product to get rid remove corrosion/magnetite sludge? Is Sentinel X400 more appropriate than X800? What is the difference between both products? I then opened all of the thermostatic valves on all 7 radiators, turned on the boiler by the mains and turned the temperature up to 25 degrees by the thermostat I add it bit by bit and taste it to see the acid left. I stop when it has not used up all the acid. You need to circulate it at the minimum temperature or with the pump on and the boiler off. To complete the cleaning process, you should always drain or flush the system fully to remove all of the debris that Sentinel X800 Fast Acting Cleaner has collected or dislodged. If you do not drain the system of this debris, the system will remain dirty."

A good cleaner is Sentinel X400, or X800 which is somewhat more aggressive. X400 can be left in the system, but will cease to loosen sludge after about 4 weeks. X800 should be circulated and the system drained and refilled several times to remove it. Fernox and Kamco are reputable makers of similar products. Thanks again Tony, all my radiators are quite recent (apart from one), had them upgraded around 3 years ago. Hopefully they should hold. I am also planning on cleaning the magnaclean filter, could this also be part of the root cause to my issue? i have used x800 without a powerflusher, used it for a over night cleaning of rads, eg run the system over night then i come the next day to change the boiler. Where systems are badly fouled, we recommend a longer circulation period (approximately 3-4 weeks). The product is not aggressive and can be safely left in the system for extended periods.

Sealed Systems: If the system is empty, add to any convenient point before filling. If full, use a Sentinel Dosing Vessel to inject via the filling loop or other access point. Sometimes a more general clean is required, aimed at removing iron oxide and limescale deposits from pipework, heat exchangers and radiators. X800 Fast Acting Cleaner is ideal for these purposes, designed for use in conjunction with powerflushing equipment, but also proving a highly effective cleaner when manually flushed, too. It is effective both hot and cold. When might I need Deposit Remover? I am interested to see it because everything else I have read has suggested the system should be flushed out within a few days. If the radiators are hot at the bottom but cold at the top, the issue is more likely to be air than sludge in the radiators. I usually use Sentinel x100 but Fernox range seems very similar. Have you got any preferences yourself?X300 Cleaner for New Systems is designed to target excess flux residues, greases, and oils in addition to installation debris and sludge. Not only this, but X300 passivates the metal surfaces and helps to prevent copper deposition, a common cause of pinhole corrosion in radiators. Ideally, the product should be added at the first filling of the system. The water should then be circulated at normal operating temperatures for 2 hours before being flushed out. If you are using cold water, leave to circulate for 24 hours. Powerflushing is not necessary when using this product. The system I’m dealing with is not new, but is less than 6 months old Actually I should be fine, did not know the difference between single and double feed cylinders (//www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=206316). it's not cheap for a can of "liquid", but I suppose if it's got lots of magic in it then it's quite cheap!
