A transfer to radio came on 19 September 1999 when she joined BBC Radio 1. She launched the hugely popular The Surgery with Mark Hamilton, where Cox acted as "Nurse Coxy". She also co-hosted the Saturday lunchtime show with Emma B from 13:00 – 15:00 So I love this book a lot. I read it by chance. It's nonfiction, but it has a real fiction-y feel. I think, for me, the big thing about this book was, it's the transformation of a woman... for herself, and then later for her children. And as a mother, I feel like so much of what I try to be is a good example to my kid, or I don't want to lose my temper in front of my kid, at a micro level.

I laughed out loud at her parents tough love approach to accidents, how she called her mum’s friends auntie and uncle, the use of a pressure cooker (I definitely thought only my mum and dad used one of them!), having to buy holiday gifts for all and sundry and using clipper cards on the bus. In September 1998, Cox became a presenter of The Big Breakfast, following in the footsteps of her close friend Zoe Ball. During her time on the programme, she interviewed stars including Robbie Williams, Sting and Leonardo DiCaprio. Cox preferred to do interviews in her father's caravan, situated in The Big Breakfast garden. Don’t get me started. I’ve been in London longer than I lived up north but on my dad’s side I come from generations and generations of farmers and then it’s screeched to a halt with us five – we’re lawyers and artists and NHS workers. I think a bit of that might come through in my next book. The dream is a smallholding one day – I’ve got a horse now, Nelly, so I’m getting there. She’s really my escape.

On the Inventor's Estate (so called because the streets are named after inventors) the local community centre is starting a pottery class. The story centres around four women who are all changed by this event. Friendships are made, lives go through their ups & downs & at the end of the course they have all been made into someone that bit different. I’ve now read quite a few of the books featured on Between The Covers. Most have them have been really good, but there are a few that have really stayed with me.Thrown' is billed as a 'laugh out loud' comedy, but I found the relationships between the women and their errant partners poignant - often tragic, and in one case disturbing. It’s called Metronome. It’s quite different to what I go for but I really loved it. I thought it was by a woman because the female protagonist is so well written, but it’s by Tom Watson, an annoyingly young man. I loved Bonnie Garmus’s Lessons in Chemistry as well. This book basically gives you the pros and cons of being both, but also allows you to be heavy. It doesn't tell you that you have to be one or the other. You saw it as an option; there's a benefit in being kind of intense and having depth, and I didn't have to hide it any more. The pottery aspect was a very clever devise (and clearly the author has used her experience on the great pottery throw down to full advantage) and wove there stories all together seamlessly. I wish I was part of their class!
