About this deal

I always love finding a cleaning product that I can use for multiple cleaning tasks and Oreo has provided lots of opportunities over the past few months to try out some new cleaning methods using OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover. In her defense, it’s not all her – the rest of the family seems to make just as big a mess. Thankfully, a little dirt never hurt anyone. 🙂 When you mix OxiClean and water, you’ll hear and see fizzing. Those oxygen bubbles help loosen and remove stains from fabrics, hence the name OxiClean. But what’s the difference? When should you use each? Is one safer or more effective than the other? After 5-30 minutes, I discovered that OxiClean had come through again even though there was a bit more scrubbing involved. Uses: Borax is most commonly used as a laundry aid, although it can be an all-purpose cleaner as well. OxiClean is used as a spot stain remover, as well as a laundry aid and all-purpose cleaner.

The PH scale measures the acidity and alkalinity of a solution. It ranges from 1-14, with 1 the most acidic and 14 the most alkaline; 7 is neutral. To use OxiClean on hard surfaces, fill the scoop to line 4 and add it to a gallon of warm water. Apply using a cloth or sponge and let stand for 5-30 minutes. Scrub if necessary and rinse well with warm water. If a product includes sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate, it contains borax. NOTE: Although this mixture worked for our light colored carpet, I’m not sure about using Oxy Clean on darker colored carpets, so be sure to test it before you start just to be safe. Yes, there will be a slight vinegar odor, but it dissipates in about 24 hours time.Even if you love to cuddle your pet on the couch, the left-behind mystery stains are something you’d likely rather live without. Thankfully, you can also use OxiClean powder to refresh water-safe upholstery.

Though Revive isn’t made with bleach, it still has a powerful (albeit pleasant) scent. While the scent somewhat dissipated after we washed and dried our clothes, the fumes were pretty intense when we completed the pre-soak. We ended up closing our laundry room door to prevent the fumes from permeating our whole home. OxiClean is relatively low risk, especially OxiClean Versatile Stain Remover Free, which is fragrance- and dye-free and receives a B rating by EWG. That said, OxiClean is still harmful if swallowed or inhaled. Now for carpet stains, you want to remove as much of the stain as possible by blotting it up with a paper towel. Once that’s done, apply the spot cleaner with a cleaning toothbrush and let it sit for a few minutes. Use some clean water, apply that with the cleaning toothbrush, then blot it up with a paper towel. If there’s any remaining product, you can just repeat that process with the clean water and the paper towel until there’s no more product left behind. Church & Dwight acquired the OxiClean brand (along with Orange Glo and several others) through its acquisition of Orange Glo International in 2006; at that point the OxiClean brand expanded into laundry detergent with the introduction of the OxiClean Detergent Ball, followed by OxiClean Liquid Laundry Detergent in 2014. I can’t find anywhere that definitively states whether Oxiclean (in powder form) can be mixed to make a disinfectant for surfaces like doorknobs and light switched. I have mixed it with water to clean. But clean and disinfect are two distinctly different results.

The only problem is that OxiClean got my carpet too clean. On the stairs and on the former paint spot, there were sparkling white patches that made an obvious stand against the wall to wall expanse of dingy floor covering. The formula varies by product, but most OxiClean products contain sodium percarbonate as the active ingredient. Unlike OxiClean, borax is not a brand; it’s an ingredient used to formulate products. It’s used in various household cleaning products and stain removers, and it’s also found in specialty toothpaste, skincare products, and even ceramic glazes. Here’s a list of 19 popular products containing borax. Finally, there’s the scent. It’s a pleasant scent, but right out of the box, it’s strong. And, we highly recommend doing the pre-soak in a well-ventilated space. The powerful fumes began filling the house, so we closed our laundry room door. Interestingly, when it’s added to the wash water, it’s not bad at all. After the clothes dried, they definitely have a strong scent but not a bad one. You can see here how dirty our carpets were. The left side is the cleaned carpet and the right is still dirty. The light spot to the right is where I had cleaned up a pet stain earlier in the week. Love Oxiclean. I used to soak my sons’ football and lacrosse practice pads and uniforms in the utility sink overnight. The pads inside the helmets were attached with velcro and everything had a good soak and scrub. It worked great! My parents used a mixture on their white vinyl siding to remove creosote. It worked really well on that too.

Ultimately, borax and OxiClean work almost the same way chemically, which is why they are compared so often. Difference 3: Uses The directions also claim that Revive is safe on colors. Whiteners typically aren’t color-friendly, so we definitely tested this with some trepidation. We followed the directions to a tee and our load came out just fine. We’d say that no matter what kind of clothing you wash—be it whites or colors—following the directions is the best way to protect your items. Formula and Scent: Strong on both accounts When I to be shopping for new carpet , and the Expert carpet cleaning at the carpet store told me that it’s important when cleaning stains, to make sure you totally rinse the stained area after cleaning. I had persistent carpet stains on my staircase. They were either spot of garlic butter sauce which comes with a pizza or drops of coffee with cream and sugar. The stains have been in the carpet so long I can no longer remember which are which, and I have used bleach, various carpet cleaners and Simple Green without success. Step 3: Rinse your carpet with the steam cleaner. I rinse one time with just hot water in the cleaner. Then I go over it a second time with a few shakes of tea tree oil in the water in the steam cleaner. Tea tree oil is a natural anti-bacterial. Just awesome. I’ve actually used OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover for years in my regular laundry routine. Extra stain-fighting power is always needed around here. I didn’t really realize though, how many different cleaning tasks it can be used for. I’ve been really happy with all of the results, and OxiClean™ has come to my rescue many times! Make sure that you’re always using hot water to mix up your solutions, this way the product can completely dissolve. If you need to use the solution on something where cold water is necessary, that’s fine, whip up the solution and then let it cool. Bottom line — borax and OxiClean are both highly effective and inexpensive. But if you’re on the fence, go with Oxiclean. Don’t forget about periodically cleaning your trash cans – it’s kind of gross what ends up in there even if you do line them with a bag. Our trash cans got a good cleaning last month when we were working on cleaning and organizing the garage. To clean, make up a solution of OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover and hot water {use 1 scoop filled to line 4 with every gallon of water}. Apply the solution with a cloth or brush – I use a stiff bristled brush on a pole to get down to the bottom – and scrub as needed. Rinse it down with the hose and it’s good as new!
