About this deal

Run F-B700-V16W.exe to extract the firmware to a sub-folder in the new folder. The resulting file and folder hierarchy is shown below: Want to get closer to your photographic subjects from afar? As in really close? Announced last year, we’ve finally wrestled a 20.3 effective megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor (21.14 million pixels total) incorporating Nikon Coolpix B700, an impressive 60x optical zoom bridge camera (extendable to 120x digitally), on to our PhotographyBlog test slab. The B700’s 20 Megapixel sensor supports 4k UHD video and as well as PASM exposure modes for stills shooting it has a raft of scene and feature modes. There’s a 3 inch 921k dot vari-angle screen which can face any direction and a 0.2in 921k electronic viewfinder which is particularly useful when using the zoom at or near its maximum range. Alongside the newly-announced Nikon A900 compact travel-zoom camera, the B700 is one of the first Nikon Coolpix cameras to offer users the ability to record 4K (UHD) video. The B700 can capture 4K resolution video at up to 30 fps and 1080p video at up to 60 fps. High speed video recording modes are available as well, offering up to 120 fps recording at 640 x 480 resolution.

The Nikon COOLPIX B700 is an SLR-styled super-zoom with a 60x range, 20 Megapixel resolution and 4k video capability. It also has a detailed electronic viewfinder as well as a 3 inch monitor that’s hinged and can be adjusted to face in any direction. On the top panel, the mode dial has positions for auto mode, the PASM modes, three dedicated scene mode positions (Night landscape, Night portrait and Landscape) a Scene position for the remaining scene modes (selected via the screen menu) Creative effects and finally a user defined mode. To the right of the mode dial you’ll find the on/off button and a programmable function button which used to be labelled Fn, but is now Fn1. That’s because the dedicated Wifi button on the rear panel is now a second programmable function button labelled Fn2. Visit us and you'll always find a friendly welcome. Our policy is to treat our customers as we would like to be treated ourselves, a simple ideal that we try hard to live up to.There is a dial to adjust shutter speed and / or aperture depending on which mode you are in. In manual mode you can use this dial, as well as the rear scroll wheel so that you can adjust shutter and aperture directly. The rear scroll wheel can be used for cycling through the menus. Surrounding this wheel is the d-pad to access exposure compensation, macro mode, self-timer and the flash. Above left: 100% crop, 4.3-258mm at 258mm 200 ISO 1/50th VR off. Above right: 100% crop, 4.3-258mm at 258mm 200 ISO 1/50th VR on. Utilizing built-in Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the Coolpix B700 is compatible with Nikon's new SnapBridge smart device application. By utilizing BLE, the camera is capable of an always-on connection between itself and a compatible mobile device, allowing automatic transferring of images to your device.

Naturally, while specification might make the Nikon Coolpix B700 look good on paper, it's the performance that counts. And here the SB700 is no slouch, thanks to a swift start up time that Nikon officially places at 1.3 seconds, with a 0.09 second auto focus response upon a half squeeze of its shutter release button, the Nikon deploying contrast detection AF. UHD movies – capture the moving image in stunning clarity, future-proofing your work as 4K becomes standard On the right side of the COOLPIX B700’s body mini HDMI and a combined USB / AV out port are located behind a soft plastic flap. Nikon provides a USB cable in the box which can be used to charge the camera from a computer as well as for transferring photos and video. What is impressive, however, is the amount of battery life we get from a full charge of its lithium ion cell. Here this betters the performance of an average compact system camera and almost matches a consumer grade DSLR, with up to 420 shots available (or provides enough capacity for an hour and a half of video). The battery slots into the base of the camera, next to a vacant slot for an SD card; adjacent to this, centrally placed, is a screw thread for a tripod. In short then, the B700 would seem an able candidate for anyone needing that bigger/longer lens reach without spending an absolute fortune – or having to engage in an upward learning curve if trading up from a snapshot camera or smartphone.MPB puts photo and video kit into more hands, more sustainably. Every month, visual storytellers sell more than 20,000 cameras and lenses to MPB. Choose used and get affordable access to kit that doesn’t cost the earth. Just above these controls, sitting beneath the spring-loaded pop up flash, is the button for raising said bulb. Give this a press and the flash immediately reveals itself. Interestingly, Nikon has embedded the B700’s built in stereo microphone in the hood of this flash. If you would prefer a more detailed description, please feel free to call us and we’ll chat through it with you over the phone. Don’t forget to call the correct location though! The B500’s flash has a quoted range of 6.9 metres, which might suggest they’re the same, but the B700’s flash is physically bigger and I wouldn’t mind betting that the B500’s flash specification is quoted at a higher ISO rating. Either way, the flash is useful for close subjects and fill-in illumination, but won’t be of much use to you with the lens zoomed in much beyond a portrait focal length of around 80-100mm equivalent.

Up to 4x (angle of view equivalent to that of approx. 5760 mm lens in 35 mm [135] format), Up to 2x when Movie options is set to 2160/30p or 2160/25p (angle of view equivalent to that of approx. 2880 mm lens in 35 mm [135] format) Shooting RAW in Nikon’s NRW format means you never have to worry about any degradation in image quality. When images are written to the memory card in NRW format, the exposure compensation, white balance, hue, tone and sharpening information are saved as instruction sets within the file. You can change the instruction set on your images as many times as you like without ever disturbing the original RAW data.

If the 83x optical zoom of the Nikon Coolpix P900 is too much, and you'd like a more compact ultra-zoom bridge camera, then the Nikon Coolpix B700 could be for you. With a 60x optical zoom lens, a vari-angle 3inch screen, built-in electronic viewfinder, Wi-Fi, 4K video recording, and manual controls the camera has a lot to offer. This camera’s built-in Wi-Fi ® capability can only be used with a compatible iPhone ®, iPad ®, and/or iPod touch ® or smart devices running on the Android ™ operating system. The Nikon SnapBridge application must be installed on the device before it can be used with this camera. Given the range of the zoom lens, the Nikon Coolpix B700 shows some purple fringing in areas of high contrast, as shown in the examples below.

Newsletter Signup The Nikon Coolpix B700 updates the P610 and features the same 60x optical zoom lens, but upgrades the insides to offer a new 20 megapixel sensor, and 4K video recording. Wi-Fi and NFC is built-in and has been joined by low-power Bluetooth to enable low-power transfer of images to a smartphone or tablet. The COOLPIX B700 offers a choice of six AF area modes, plus manual focus. Face priority works well when people are within a few metres of the camera in good light. If there are no faces in the frame it defaults to the nine-area AF system which it uses to focus on the subject closest to the camera. Alternatively you can manually select the focus area from one of 99 positions using the multi-selector to move the frame around a 9×11 grid, or set a central focus point. There are three manual modes, spot, normal and Wide, but in reality this is a single mode with options for the AF area size. All the same the ability to change both the size and position of the AF area is a useful thing to be be able to do and in certain situations can greatly increase your chances of getting sharp snaps. The high-definition 921k-dot, 0.2-in LCD (with diopter adjustment) electronic viewfinder gives 100% of frame coverage, so you’ll always know exactly what you’re shooting. Switch shooting styles seamlessly from screen to viewfinder, as the eye sensor automatically switches from monitor shooting when your eye gets close to the sensor. Viewfinder shooting is useful for cramped conditions and also ensures stable posture, minimising camera shake. Nikon’s SnapBridge feature maintains a constant low-power connection between the B700 and your smartphone or tablet to ensure a seamless synchronisation across your devices. This makes instant sharing of your high quality images a breeze, and you can control key camera functions from your phone. When using the Nikon B700 in P, S, A, or M shooting modes, the ISO range is 100-3200, although it is 100-1600 in all other modes. Similarly, shutter speed varies depending on the selected mode. In M mode with ISO set to 100, you can select shutter speeds as slow as 15s, although the limit is 1s otherwise. The fastest shutter speed available is 1/4000s. Nikon states that you'll be able to capture full-resolution images (including RAW images) at up to 5fps in a 5-shot burst, although the memory card used, and other conditions could affect the speed of capture.
