About this deal

machine screws & hardware (I used 5/16"-18 threaded inserts, 2 1/2" long bolts and knobs that I already had, but any kind of machine screw or bolt hardware that can attach the upper and lower sub-assemblies would work) The main body is constructed from metal, and the almost completely round handle is wrapped in real perforated leather. The rim is finished with a flash of metal at the top just like real racing wheels.

But our favorite feature is the ability to upgrade this simple wheel stand into a full blown sim racing rig. Next Level Racing offers a racing seat and monitor stand attachment that is compatible with this stand. That gives you a nice upgrade path in the future without the huge upfront cost and commitment to a full rig. Our top sim racing wheel stand for the Logitech G29/G90 is the Next Level Racing Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0. This is about as premium as a wheel stand can get without being a full blown rig. We found it to be 100 per cent plug and play. Hook up the 3-pedal board to the wheel, then the wheel to the PS4 and you’re away. It automatically recognises the wheel, which can then be used instantly with games like DriveClub and Project Cars. No extra set-up is needed. I designed the stand in Pro/Engineer, and output .dxf files that I can open in Cut2D to generate the G-code I need to cut it on my homebuilt CNC router. The pedal-box hole layout on the baseplate is specific to the G920 and probably won't work with other brands, but the top plate should work with any wheel that has a clamping mechanism (I used the built-in clamps on mine even though it has threaded inserts for mounting bolts). As you grow as a racer, you will progress from the G29 through to belt-driven wheels and even direct drive wheels further down the line. This progression as a driver, and in terms of hardware will be ever rewarding when you make the next jump up.

The manual shifter itself transforms the racing wheel into something much closer to a regular road car. But much like its racing wheel brother, it also has some flaws. The main one being how weak it is. There is little to no resistance in the shifting at all. You can literally shift with your little finger. First, the stand is not really noticeably lighter than the old one. I would cut some "speed holes" into the base-plate specifically to lighten it up. Also, I messed up when cutting the mounting holes for the pedal-box so the inside pair of bolts do not line up. The bolt pattern for this pedal-box is asymmetric, and I accidentally cut mine with the inside bolts offset towards the wrong side (they would be perfect if the pedal-box was turned 180 degrees, but of course that would make it difficult to drive). No big deal since the 4 outside bolts are more than enough to hold it. Removed some unusable connection points from the base plate and added a couple for further placement of the pedals.

Is this the best PS4 wheel? Right now there are no perfect options, and just a few very good ones. The Logitech G29 sits among them, with a nice leather-upholstered wheel and plenty of PS4 specific controls.

It’s a three-pedal setup: accelerator, brake and clutch. Each has a different tension style, mirroring what you get in a real car. The important improvement in the G29 is the brake. It’s progressive, with more tension at the end of its depression to give you much better control over the force of the brake and a more realistic. It’s a big improvement over the old wheels, and the pedal set included with the Thrustmaster T300 RS.

in diameter, with a largely metal frame and finished with leather, it has a high-end-enough build to just-about give you enough ammunition to convince people it’s not a toy. Yes, we know it is one really. The G29 / G920 has made many gamers fall in love with sim racing, including ourselves. And for that reason, we would wholeheartedly recommend it to new racers! The main reason for these racing wheels existing is to cater for the huge audience of casual sim racers. Not every sim racer is a complete crazy enthusiast like us! There is a huge audience of racers who like to chill out and use a racing wheel to race every now and then. If you are in the market for a stand, it’s important to consider what factors make one stand better or worse than another. For this top 3 list, we looked at many different factors when determining which stand you should buy. Price I have replaced the original spring in the brake pedal to a variable spring, to improve the feeling and I have added magnetic shifters to give a more tactile feel. The wheelbase looks, well… Like a wheelbase. There is a lot of plastic, and a few nice design features such as little vents. But other than that it looks just fine. The steering wheel however looks great. for a budget racing wheel, this rim looks remarkably high end.
