Aiken, Gregor (16 November 2018). "Brexit breakdown as Prime Minister dwells on Snapchat group with Arlene Foster and Nicola Sturgeon". Multi-award-winning Scottish comedienne, playwright, award-winning blogger, best-selling author and former Scotsman newspaper columnist Janey Godley has performed her comedy shows and one-woman play around the world, including off-Broadway in New York. She is a regular on BBC Radio 4’s Just a Minute. First-hand, Janey saw the gangland violence and met extraordinary characters within an enclosed and seldom-revealed Glasgow underworld - from the grim and far-from-Swinging 60s, to the discos of the 70s, to the tidal wave of heroin addiction which swept through and engulfed Glasgow's East End during the 1980s. Prison term for uncle marks an end to the ordeal women had kept to themselves; Abused sisters' 30-year secret". The Herald. 5 November 1996 . Retrieved 21 August 2020. Excellent book, what a hard life Janey had ,in her younger years, and her present situation is so sad . She is a struggler that’s for sure, wish her all the very best.

I first came across Janey years ago and have since followed her on social media. She’s a great comic and it’s just obvious she’s such a caring loving soul and that her family means the world to her.

I think this is an example of when an audio book pays off - thought that Janey reading her own story brought it all to life really well (the good and bad). She details her life story in the underbelly of East End Glasgow from the 1970s to 1990s and the book does not pull any punches. Born in the tough East End of Glasgow and married into one of the city’s most notorious criminal families, Janey Godley’s young life was far from ordinary. From the grim and far-from-swinging ’60s, to the discos of the ’70s, to the tidal wave of heroin addiction which engulfed Glasgow’s East End during the ’80s, Janey was witness to an extraordinary underworld – as well as religious sectarianism, abject poverty and a frightening family of in-laws. Throughout it all, her indomitable spirit – and her vivid sense of humour – kept her alive. Janey Godley tells fans that her cancer has returned". The Independent. 14 December 2022 .
