Milton Bridge has produced jewellery enamel since our opening in 1982. Originally producing two ranges of enamel, our portfolio has increased over the years. To choose the best teeth whitening pens, we researched the top options, including a few we tested in our lab tests. We considered each pen for its ingredients, wear time, number of applications, and time to results for touch-ups and full whitening treatments.

Although some fluxes will work across the various ranges, we recommend you use fluxes from the same range of colours that you are working with.Flux can also be used as a topcoat to create better clarity of colours and also to seal the work. Applicator: Teeth whitening pens typically have small brushes at the tip, similar to many lip glosses and under-eye concealers you'll see on the market—this is ideal because the thin, flexible brush tip allows you to apply the product in the crevices of your teeth. Pens that feature silicone applicators don’t provide the same precision, which can prevent you from evenly coating your teeth. As for the results it delivers, these also impressed us. We saw a noticeable improvement in the whiteness of teeth—about four shades—after using it twice daily as directed for just one week. The one downside is that it can cause minor sensitivity if you get the gel on your gums, but this is typical for whitening products, and if you’re careful while applying it with the brush, this shouldn’t be a big issue for you.

Peroxide—either hydrogen or carbamide—is the active ingredient in most whitening products, but it can lead to tooth sensitivity. “Whitening can also induce tooth sensitivity, as peroxide can pass through the enamel to the dentin layer of the tooth and irritate the pulp (nerve) of the tooth,” explains Lucy Hovanisyan, DDS, of ProHealth Dental in New Jersey. Lumineux, a fan-favorite whitening company, makes all its products without peroxide. Instead, they use a combination of essential oils to provide results—without any chemical taste you get from most whitening products. Enamelling metal is safe with a number of different alloys.
