About this deal

This is because the R5 needs faster read/write speeds, as it shoots stills at 45MP compared to the R6’s 20MP, and can capture 8K Raw video footage, with 4K oversampled 120fps video footage. Capturing that kind of video data simply isn't possible on today's SD UHS-II cards. Canon EOS R5 vs EOS R6: Battery life It's also worth noting that a recent firmware update, version 1.3.0, has brought the very useful Canon Log 3 (C-Log 3) format, which lets you achieve wide dynamic range and means its slots nicely into workflows that also include footage shot on Canon's EOS Cinema cameras. The update also brings a slo-mo 120p option for Full HD recording, though sadly the 30-minute recording limit for video files remains. It’s obvious that the Canon first-party batteries are wildly better in performance than the four third-party options tested. That said, some users might not notice.

The Canon EOS R6 has a resolution of 3.69-million dots at 60fps, compared with the R5’s 5.76-million dots at 120fps. The R5’s higher resolution and faster frame rate should mean it delivers a more organic visual experience, closer to that of an optical viewfinder. With our SanDisk Extreme Pro card we found the buffer cleared almost as fast as we could shoot, writing multiple frames per second when we’d finished shooting a burst of raw files. The EOS R5 will shoot 12fps using the mechanical shutter, or up to 20 with the electronic shutter. On paper, the EOS R5 might be the best hybrid mirrorless camera on the market. It’s both high resolution and full-frame, producing 8,192 x 5,464 resolution files that weighed in, on average, at about 60MB each. That's why, with the introduction of the professional EOS-1D Mark III camera and LP-E4 battery in 2007, Canon added a new menu item. That said, lower-resolution sensors do bring some advantages. One is simply a more manageable workflow – fewer pixels means smaller file sizes, which can be a big boon for event photographers like wedding snappers. By dint of its lower resolution, and therefore less strenuous bandwidth demands, the R6 can actually shoot continuously for longer than the R5 – more than a thousand frames in JPEG mode, or up to 240 raw images (the R5 can shoot 350 JPEGs or 180 raws).Because it's aimed more at the hobbyist shooter than the professional, the EOS R6 has two SD UHS-II card slots, while the R5 caters to pros with one SD UHS-II and one CFexpress slot. The first item is the remaining capacity of the installed battery. Special circuits and a memory chip in some batteries communicate the precise percentage of charge remaining in the battery, in 1% increments. Others use a graphic to indicate roughly how much is left. While I am happy Canon included an LCD screen and think it is great to be able to switch between different layouts, I don’t particularly like either of them and think Canon should have included the same information that their DSLRs did on the basic screen as well. In particular, I would’ve preferred to know about drive mode and white balance without having to switch to the second layout, which feels rather cramped anyways. Rear Layout and Controls We re-tested the Canon EOS R5's video performance after the arrival of its 1.1.0 firmware update, which promised to "extend video shooting times in some situations". You can read the full results of our video tests here, but the short answer is that while it slightly improves recovery times in some modes and situations, it's not a radical change from the original figures quoted for the EOS R5. This means the R6 is likely to be slower when it comes to transferring your images elsewhere, while the R5 gets some significant boosts in this regard that reflect its pro leanings.

The ‘Battery info’ menu option has filtered down to enthusiast models and can now also be found on the EOS 750D and 760D cameras, introduced in February 2015. These were the first of the entry-level models to offer details of battery performance. They use the LP-E17 battery which includes same technology as the LP-E6N. I have a high capacity charger and a good USB-C cable. I tried different ones, the camera does not react. The port is working, i connected the camera to a PC succesfully....

You can even display RGB instead of brightness histograms, which is a welcome improvement. The one thing I dislike about the R5’s viewfinder is its eyepiece. It is considerably worse than that of Canon DSLRs in two ways. First, it is smaller and not as good a fit to the eye, so sunlight can penetrate more easily. This can be an annoyance in some situations but an actual problem in others. For instance, in the snow on a bluebird day my right eye (the one on the viewfinder) started watering after only a short while of shooting. Second, the material used is much harder than that of the earlier eyepieces, making it much less comfortable to press your eye against the camera for longer periods of time. Unfortunately, there don’t seem to be any aftermarket eyecups yet. Canon EOS R5 + RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM @ 45mm, ISO 100, 1/400, f/11.0 Rear LCD Screen

Shooting 45MP stills at 20fps with autofocus should mean some great, high resolution, shots - even when shooting action. Batteries can also deteriorate if left flat or stored for a long time without use. This means that even if you have not used the camera much the battery condition may still have suffered. That's fair enough for 8K, a mode that no other mirrorless camera offers, but even if you're shooting 4K/60p on the EOS R5, a 10-minute rest will only give you another 10 minutes of recording time. So for both of the EOS R5's most demanding modes, you're still restricted to relatively short bursts. Stills; Scene Intelligent Auto, Flexible priority AE, Program AE, Shutter priority AE, Aperture priority AE, Manual, Bulb and Custom (x3) Movie: Scene Intelligent Auto, Program AE, Shutter priority AE, Aperture priority AE, Manual, Bulb and Custom (x3) The latest Windows 11 update won't install for some users, and tanks gaming performance even if it doesI shoot and review photos using the EVF, I've never enabled 120Hz mode, and the camera is still on ECO if that matters. You have to look fairly closely at the EOS R6 to distinguish it from the R5. To our slight surprise it’s actually a little bigger – the same height and depth-wise, but about 3mm wider. The Duracell multi-fit camera battery provides long-lasting lithium-ion power for a range of camera makes and models, allowing hundreds of photos to be taken on a single charge. While the Canon EOS R5 has the upper hand when it comes to resolution, the EOS R6 has a theoretical edge for shooting in very low light. Can we get some posts from R5 owners about what their real world battery life is like with the older LP-E6N and the newer LP-E6NH batteries? I've been hearing battery life reports that are all over the place.
