About this deal

Most Bat fans agree, however, that Miller's finest outing with the hero was Batman: Year One. Fresh off the success of DKR, Miller was tasked with updating and revamping Batman's origin story for the the new, post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe. It was a far cry from the brief, emotionally detached origin snippets seen in Batman's early Golden Age appearances. It was just what the character needed to adapt with the changing times. It worked so well that DC has let this particular origin story remain, even as Superman's origin is periodically revamped every three weeks or so. Year One distances itself from the more extravagant excesses of the Batman franchises. Few of Batman's rogues are active at this point in his career. Selina Kyle is present, but Miller infamously overhauled her origin to make Selina a prostitute inspired by batman's vigilante actions. One of the only disappointing aspects of the story is that Selina's role doesn't amount to more in the end. The conclusion is also a bit underwhelming relative to the rest of the book. But neither of these complaints do much to diminish Year One's status as a gripping and highly influential Batman drama.

Schumacher claims he originally had in mind an adaptation of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One.
