I was gripped from the start and finished it on holiday, ignoring my friends (and surrounding kangaroos!) because I couldn’t bear to put it down until I got to the end. And then, of course, I was sad it was over. I also wanted to inject some humour into it, which is where the idea for the day from hell came in. Grace is having one of the worst days of her life. She’s pretty much lost everything. But instead of breaking down, she rises up, finally. She rips up the social contract, and goes out and says and does all the things we only dream of doing. She’s basically my fantasy self! Overall, Amazing Grace Adams was a fine read, with an urge to skim most of the book. Connecting with the characters is key to enjoying this book, but I didn't connect with anyone. In terms of rituals, I usually made chamomile tea before starting work, to calm the creative dread…

Ultimately a powerful story about resilience, and the struggles women face every day. Grace was a wonderful heroine and I enjoyed her telling the world she was done with its shit.I canvassed my kids for this one - of all the wise advice I’ve bestowed on you etc… and my middle daughter came up with this instantly. It’s a story from my early teenage years. The day of Lottie’s 16th birthday is brilliantly done, it’s full of drama and emotion but we are left feeling optimistic. I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next! Unfortunately, Grace Adams herself is whiny, self-indulgent, and just not likable enough to carry the book.

Following Grace on her journey to deliver her daughters cake, we get glimpses of two previous times also which help to explain the what and why of Grace's predicament.Grace's memories flash as she walks to her daughter. And slowly we begin to understand not only what she’s suffered, but that there’s a reason why Grace Adams is amazing.
